According to the apple website under "Nike+iPod"
" Grab your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS, a pair of Nike+ shoes, and the Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor. Put the sensor in your Nike+ shoe — there’s a built-in pocket specifically designed for it under the insole. Then connect the receiver to your iPod nano.
iPod touch and iPhone 3GS include built-in support for Nike + iPod, so NO receiver [aka iPod plug in] is necessary.
The sensor tracks your run, then sends the data to your iPod."
That would suggest that only the shoe sensor is necessary.
Hope this helps.- Answered by Jennifer P from La Habra

does the nike + ipod support kit comes with a nike shoes
- Asked by Jordan D from Pine Hill
- Jan 30, 2010

Answer
No, it does not come with the shoes. You will have to purchase the nike+ shoes available at the Nike stores. You can go to nikerunning.com and use the footwear finder to find the right nike+ shoes for you.
Then you can get the sensor from Apple. The sport kit is useful for iPod Nano but if you're using iPod Touch 2nd gen/iPhone 3GS/nike sportband the sensor alone is enough.- Answered by Filyn B from Kuching

You do not have to have Nike+ shoes to use this product. You can buy pouches with velcro straps that are made to hold the sensor. It will work with a third generation iPod Touch as well.
