Peter. Yes it will. You can use either a cig lighter outlet or a 12 volt outlet.

Is there a cable like this to play music through the car?
I have an older car with the stock stereo and it doesn't have an aux input, I want to play music from my iPad in the car, so is it possible to do so through the cig lighter?

Michelle. There is no cable available that allows music to play through the car lighter. It has no way of transferring audio. Your best bet is to find an F.M. Transmitter. There are some available that will charge your iPhone/iPod/iPad. Or some that just plug into your device and away you go. You just need to find a clear F.M. channel, tune your transmitter to that station and off you go. Please note that the quality of audio will vary.

The Belkin lightning to USB cable is a million times better than the apple ones.
I use the Belkin one for my iPad when charging at home because it is longer; I'm using the apple one with the belkin cigarette charging part in my car (apples lightning is shorter and it gets stuck in my iMac...nightmare).
Even though you're just looking for the cigarette charging part, if you do the numbers - it might be cheaper to by the combo. It's always nice to have two cables or a backup.

Will the Belkin car charger work on an iPad with retina display purchased on 03/15/13?
The description on the Belkin car charger says that it works on an iPad with retina display fourth generation. I purchased a new iPad on March 15, 2013 and have no idea if it is fourth generation or not. I didn't know there was such a thing as "generations" of iPads nor was there anyone to ask, as I purchased it online at the Apple website. Will the Belkin work on other iPads or only on the 4th generation, and how do you know what generation your iPad is?

I've got a Belkin case for my iPhone 5 and it fits perfectly. The black lightning cable that comes with it is great - however, I'm now using it for my iPad and the apple white one for the car. The Belkin cable is longer than the apple ones- plus the Belkin one doesn't get stuck in my iMac (like the apple ones do).
This car charger is outstanding...good luck.
Also - the black Belkin cable also fit into my iPad with it's case on too.
