Will it backup Windows
Can this external hard drive be used to backup a Windows partition as well as the Time machine on Os X Lion?

AnswerYes, the drive can back up a Windows partition but you need to create a separate partition on the drive and format in a Windows friendly format (FAT32/NTFS). Use Disk Utility in OSX to do this. So essentially, you'll have 2 partitions on the hard drive-One for Windows and One for OSX. OSX will see both partitions and mount them as separate hard drives. Windows will only see the Windows partition and mount that as a separate hard drive.

Can it transfer data from one computer to another?
I have a five year old MacBook that is breaking very quickly and I need to back up all of my data before it completely dies so that I can transfer all of my things onto my new computer.

AnswerIt, as well as all the other harddrives here, can do this. A hard drive is a container for digital files, it doesn't care if they are pictures or movies or music or word files, so long as it has space, you can put it in there.
It is a bit like asking can this box be used for moving books to my new house as well as for keeping books in the attic. The only issue is that you MUST choose a Harddrive with a disk twice the capacity as the one in your computer. Three times if your budget will stretch that far. So if you have a 50GB disk, get a 1TB (1000GB) external drive.
Best option is to backup your current computer, using time machine, onto the disk, then use that to "restore" your files, including all applications etc, onto your new computer. Can I store all my video and pics on this and access them from laptop or desktop to save space on my desktop?
I have both (Macs) a laptop and a desktop and want to use this to store videos and pictures on to save disk space on my Mac. Is this what I need and if so - can I access the media from either machine?

Best AnswerI just received this item on yesterday. I have an older 2008 Macbook unibody and only have usb 2.0 capability. According to the packaging it is designed for USB 2.0 and 3.0. It seems to be working just fine for me!
