I have a 15" MBP Retina from last summer. I have the 750GB SSD with about 265GB used. I configured the LacIe to use Time Machine, and the initial full backup took less than two hours. Incrementals are really fast too. Summary: works great on the MBP Retina!

Yes. It is not a DVD drive, though. It is fine for backups and general file/folder storage, viewing photos or videos that you have stored on the drive.
You'll still need a separate DVD drive (Apple's SuperDrive for example) if you wish to play DVDs.- Answered by Mike M from Beaverton

You can partition the hard drive in the disc utility on your mac so you can have Windows files on one partition and Mac files on the other! You can also have several partitions, I have five on mine.

There is no easy way to use an external hard drive with an iPad or any other common tablet computer. It will work on a PC and Mac. Another issue is that different operating systems use different filesystems. Windows typically uses NTFS, while Mac OS X can read from NTFS, but can't write to it. Linux can read and write to NTFS. Linux typically uses ext4, which can't be accessed at all from Mac OS X or Windows. Mac OS X uses HFS+, which can be accessed from Linux but not Windows. Fat32 will work on all operating systems, but it has some limitations (for example it doesn't support files larger than 4 GB). Fat32 is currently your only option if you want to use the drive on both PC and Mac and need read/write support on Mac.
