Is the sale of these devices not illegal in Canada?
This device shows in the Canada Apple store, and adds to my shopping cart just fine, but... I understood the sale of radar detectors was illegal in Canada, is this not the case, can the device be purchased here (in Canada)?

Best AnswerRadar detectors are legal in some parts of Canada. Alberta,BC,Saskatchewan are legal. Manitoba and Ontario forbids them. I do not know about rest of the country.

AnswerThis particular design is a windshield-mounted radar detector. It must have a full, clear view of the road to work at as designed. However, Escort does offer "hidden" radar detectors that have the receiver antennas mounted in the grill of the automobile.

Is there a way to have the app on all the time or automatically activate when in your car?
I can see me (and others) forgetting to turn it on before it's too late. Also, what's it gonna cost to install? I don't want a power cord running up to my dash

AnswerThe product that is available in the Apple Store includes a power-plug that is designed for the cigarette-lighter plug in your car. Escort offers direct-wiring options separately, as well as battery-powered radar detectors.
There is no cost to install it. It mounts on your windshield using the provided windshield mounting clips.
Once you launch the app, it will run continuously, unless the iPhone is out-of-range for 15 minutes (and causes the app to disconnect), or you quit the app. However, you can always re-connect to the app after a time-out.

AnswerYes, you can run Pandora and Escort Live at the same time. Escort Live is constantly using cellular data so your iPhone's service provider will determine if you can use data and voice phone calls at the same time. If your provider does not support simultaneous voice and data then you will receive phone calls with Escort Live running but you will not receive any data while on the phone call.

AnswerNo, the SmartRadar that is available in the Apple Store does not include a display controller. These can be ordered separately from Escort Inc.

Hi - I'm interested in knowing about whether the Escort SmartRadar Detector Apple Pack is will be offered for sale at Virginia Apple stores.
The product is Apple no: H9158LL/A.
Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia and the District of Columbia. I presume that Apple would not offer these in their Apple stores in Virginia and DC. Further to the question, would the item be shipped to buyers who live in Virginia and DC from the online Apple store?

AnswerI'm presuming that you're asking about playing music thru the iPhone's connector via USB to your car's stereo system, and connect to the radar detector via Bluetooth.
