This charger does not fit into a USB port. It fits into the cigarette lighter of your car and has two USB ports to charge up to two IPads simultaneously (and of course a combination of IPhone/IPhone or IPod/IPad etc..)

Yes, it will charge the iPhone 5 by attaching the Lighting adapter to the supplied 30 pin wire, or by using the Lighting wire supplied with the iPhone 5 phone.

Iphone 5 / 1st generation Ipad compatibility???
I am a little confused. The specs on the internet shows this is compatible with the 1st generation Ipad. However the specs on box at the Apple store shows only 3rd generation ipad. I would expect this would also work on the Iphone 5 as well. I have the 30 pin connector for that. any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

This charger works for any iOS device. Since it has the USB port, all you have to do is connect your iPad/iPhone/iPod with your 30 pin connector cord or new lightning cord, because both these cords have the USB end which goes in to the charger.

Yes, it can work on the IPhone 5 as long as you have the new Lighting to USB cable. This charger has two USB ports so you can use any cable that comes in the original box for IPod/IPhone/IPad

You will need to use 2 lightening adapters/connectors (you can use the lightening cord that comes with your iPhone 5 as one such connector for the second phone.

This product is designed to fit into the power port, or cigarette lighter port of the car, and give you two USB inputs to charge 2 devices. It does not convert your current USB port into 2 ports.

This is for the cigarette lighter socket in automobiles. Its compatibility might depend on the airline you fly, but in my experience most airplane-seat power sockets take a special adaptor that's different from this one.
