AnswerYes. You will really be chewing through some data and battery, but it is capable. The one snag with the app thus far is that the GPS will stay on in full even after you've closed the app.

Will the iradar still work if you have a go phone plan?
I ordered the iradar detection system the other day for a friend. He has an iphone 3gs but he has a prepaid plan. Once he downloads the iradar app will he be able to use all the features or will it not work at all?

Does it require a data plan to function?
I'm considering getting this for a gift for someone who's adamant about using the majority of his apps when connected to WiFi in order to avoid charges for data usage. Does this gadget require a WiFi connection or data usage to function?

AnswerYou don't need a data plan for the radar detector portion to work, but a cellular data plan is required for the Cobra iRadar app to fully function. (With a data connection, it allows you to tap to report live police activity at your current location, and to receive other similar warnings created recently by other iRadar users.) Without a data connection, you're not really getting much benefit out of the whole point of linking the iPhone and a radar detector together.
