Does thre meter work with the Iphone 5?
- Asked by Leon P from West Haven

AnswerYes, it does work with the iPh5 with an adapter. The software is easy to use & beautiful on the iPad. I even added my A1C reading to a note with a red from some free Emoticons. I bought a Bayer Contour USB but the Glucofacts software, like most diabetes programs, was written for the PC & ported to the Mac, so it's not as intuitive or easy to use as we Mac'rs expect.

AnswerPresently, no, but I expect the US to change or at least give you the option of the Br system in the future. (& I would hope that Sanofi is monitoring these comments & recognize the need)

Most diabetes programs are written for the PC & ported to the Mac, so they're not as intuitive or easy to use as we Mac'rs expect. At the present time, this meter's software only uses the US system of measurement but I fully expect the US to adapt later..it was discussed in a class I took in Jan 2013. I would like to be able to add other meals, like snacks, tho the times are flexible to group them with other meals.

Will meter ever be compatible with iPhone 5?
Since the sync/power port on the iPhone 5 has changed, obviously the meter will no longer connect to the phone. I checked with the manufacturer who said at this time they are waiting to hear from Apple. I read that the converter does not allow every attachment to work (e.g. video). Does anyone know if the converter that is supposed to be available sometime in October from Apple or, for that matter, any 3rd party vendor as well, will work as a connection?

Will it work with iphone 5
With the smaller pin will they make a ibgstar for the ipone 5 ?
- Asked by Richard B from Waterford

Best AnswerYes! It does. I have an iPhone 5 and have been using the iBGStar since it was released. They just released a new version of their iPhone app (v 2.1) that supports iOS 6 and using a lightning adapter, it works. They do prompt you with an alert saying it isn't tested, but it does work and a new version is supposedly going to be released to work specifically with the iPhone 5 and thunderbolt. However, with the certifications it must go through, like the FDA, it may take a while.

AnswerYes you can. I purchased mine on line with a pick up at my local Apple store after confirming stock. Apple sent me an email that it was there and ready for pick up. Walked in confirmed who I was with Id, and walked out with the meter. Very cool way to purchase.

Does this blood glucose monitor link with the Medtronic insulin pump like the ultra link monitor does?

AnswerNo, it does not. But the ease of inputting basal rates and boluses in the app make up for it, in my opinion--especially when wearing a sensor (since you have to turn off the automatic send of bgs anyway to avoid unintended calibrations).

Which company manufactures the testing strips? Will I be able to buy the strips outside the USA?
I'm from Brazil and I have insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. I would like to know if I will be able to buy the testing strips at home.

Best AnswerI believe Agamatrix makes the strips. They are only compatible with the iBGStar though, i.e. not interchangeable with other Agamatrix strips.
The meter was released in Europe a few months back so it is available outside the US. My recommendation is to buy extra before you go to be sure.- Answered by Michael T

Insurance coverage for meter, strips????

AnswerI attempted to answer this question several weeks ago, but for some reason it was not approved. Let me try again. Medicare pays for my test strips and lancets, based on prescription from my doctor. I submitted paperwork for reimbursement from medicare for the meter, but have not heard back.

where to find lancets
Tried twice to post this question without success. Hopefully I don't end up double posting.
Does anyone know any specific "generic" lancets by brand name and where they can be obtained. Thanks in advance.

AnswerOK I'll answer this one myself. According to the Owner's Guide, the included lancet launching device "works with most generic lancets such as BD Ultra-Fine 33 Gauge Lancets".

importing readings or exchange Data between iPad and iPhone
1) Is there a way to import readings into the app?
2) Can the data already in one device be exchanged between iPhone and iPad?
3) Once the meter is connected what happens to the readings in the meter, are they still there or are they deleted?- Asked by David T from Owings Mills
- May 21, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer1) Readings are imported into the app every time the meter is connected to the iPhone. Entries can be manually entered directly into the app.
2) I can't answer this.
3) First time the meter is connected to your iPhone it calls for a sync. Once that is done every time the meter is connected to the iPhone there is an automatic upload of the data from the meter to the iPhone. According to the Owner's Guide, the meter continues to store the 300 most recent readings. Once it reaches 300 the oldest will be deleted and the newest one will be saved.
Incidentally, once a reading is taken it cannot be deleted. Also you can download the Owner's Guide from the iBGStar web site.
Hope this helps.

Where do you buy the testing strips?
- Asked by Daphne U from Bethlehem

AnswerSome options for you. If you buy the "kit" from Apple directly, you will receive the meter (as described with all parts/pieces, etc) and 50 strips for the $99 price. You can also obtain strips at the sponsored pharmacy, Walgreens. However, at Walgreens the meter and strips are separate, albeit very similar in cost. Be sure to visit the IBGStar site to obtain the cost savings code for strips, pretty handy. Because of the lovely laws, you have to physically go to the pharmacy to initiate the cost saving program. Not a huge hassle as there is a Walgreens every eight feet for convinience. Just so you know, enjoy!!
