Can this be used on WIFI and 3G? And how secure is it?

Best Answer
Yes. The great thing about Square, is you can use it on both Wifi and 3G. Ideally, you want to use 3G so you aren't tied to a static spot, but it doesn't really matter. As for the security, it is fully secure. In fact, it is so secure, that Square sometimes has a problem in places with low cell coverage because it is unable to get a good connection. All in all, Square is a great thing, that I have been using for almost a full year.

Square is used to accept payment for purchases, not make purchases. You can use the Square app to accept payment when the card is not present, but the fee increases to 3.5% + $0.15 transaction charge.

While there is no formal integration with a specific accounting package, Square provides the ability to export your transaction and deposit history in CSV format. If your accounting software is able to import CSV data, then you will probably be able to import the files Square provides.

If I use my personal iPhone account with Square for the company I work for, will it keep my personal itunes account/email/bank/e and my work separate?
I work in a property management company that sales fitness center passes to vacation renters. Currently they have to pay cash or check. My company wants to get the square reader so that we can accept credit cards. However, they want me to use my iPhone. Will using the square card reader and app interfere at all with my personal data?

Answer
Square requires you to set up an account with them through their website. All swiped cards and transactions go through that account, NOT through your apple iTunes account. Your company is able to set up a Square account, then they can give you limited access to the account so you are able to accept payments on your iPhone while still having the money be deposited into their company account. Essentially you are using your iPhone simply as a terminal and all the money and settings are the company's.

Do I always have to be connected to WIFI or 3G network to use Square?
I have an IPod Touch so I'm not always 100% connected to the internet. Can Square store the data to be processed later when I have an internet connection.

From Square's website: "For security reasons, there is no way to take payments at an off-site location and then upload the information at a later time. "
So, no, it can't store the data (which is a bummer for me - I have an Ipod Touch too)- Answered by Kristen S from Camden
