Answer
The clamp will open roughly 2.0cm - 2.5 cm and will still be able to clamp onto a surface. Therefore the desk / object the HoverBar is clamped onto needs to be around 2.0cm thick or less.

Twelve South sell an adaptor to use this with iPad 1. It costs $20 from their US store. I've not seen it for sale in the UK yet.

Answer
I have heard that it does. It is a tight fit due to the slight increase in thickness of the iPad (3) over the iPad 2.

Can it be attached to a MacBook Air? Or does it need to be attached to a sturdy surface?
I want to know if I can clip this onto my MacBook Air

Best AnswerUnfortunately, it will only work with more stable and weighted surfaces. The clamp would likely damage the MacBook Air display or even body. You could probably attach it to a desk or table, though.

It's a very tight fit and you would probably break either your iPad or the bracket if you had to constantly remove it. There is however an updated bracket for the 3rd Generation iPAD

Is this item compatible with the iMac 27"?
I have an iMac 27" and would like to know if the arm on this device is long enough to view my iPad next to the display.

Best AnswerI just bought this product yesterday. It is compatible with the 27" iMac. It's very easy to mount on the side, but mounting it above the display takes some work. Once you get it set it stays in place. I'm very satisfied with this product. It's very easy to assemble, and comes with clamps which allow you to secure your connector cable to the movable arm.

Will this work on an iPad with a case/cover on it?
I have a Snugg case for my iPad3 and was wondering if this stand will work on an iPad with that case, or any case for that matter. Thanks in advance.

AnswerAgainst my better judgement I am going to attempt to answer. The stand is designed for Apple products. I would recommend looking in the refurb section of this website for your Mac purchases, or perhaps put a little cash away every month, like I do.

Answer
There is no straight answer to this.
Yes, if you manage to secure the clamp to something stable in you car. But the clamp is designed for the current iMac/Cinema Display stands and it is unlikely to find something adequate in cars. Sure, if you are crafty and don't mind drilling holes in your cockpit,... well I think you get the picture.
So the best answer for this is no. There are better iPad stands for car use.- Answered by Helge B

Does the HoverBar you purchased work with your iPad3?
- Asked by James P from Burke

Best AnswerWhile the iPad third generation does work with the Hoverbar, originally engineered for the second generation iPad, I would advise against using it. The Hoverbar with the second gen iPad is a great workflow enhancement, adding additional screen real estate (with Air Display app), or in my case, a great resource to keep iBooks/Kindle/GoodReader/Sente open for researching and writing. However, the Hoverbar isn't engineered for the iPad 3 (its thickness and its weight) and it becomes apparent over time. For example, the bar itself allows the iPad 3 to droop over time, and it doesn't hold, as to be expected, the iPad 3 as fitting as the iPad 2. Thus, I would wait for Twelve South to produce a revised product, accompanying the new specs of the third generation iPad.

Does it charge the ipad while docked?
Is the stand charging the ipad when it's docked, or do we need to charge it manually from time to time?

AnswerIt is not a dock, so manually.
You could connect the Pad to one of the USB Connectors though.- Answered by Helge B
