I want know if this device will work in the Colombian road?
- Asked by Luis O from Coral Springs
- Dec 25, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe device will work in Columbia as long as there is cellular connectivity in the area where you're using the device. A good rule of thumb is that if a cell phone is able to send a text message, then the device should work. The monthly service fee for Columbia is $29.95 per month.

where on a car is it installed? is the device hard wired if so how does that work?
- Asked by Wanda H from Red Boiling Springs
- Aug 27, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes, the device is hard wired. One wire for power and the other ground. Depending on what you are connecting to, the device is connected by clamping the wire to another wire or attaching directly to the battery with the lug nut. A nice option is that you can install the device anywhere in the car that you can access an "always on" or constant powered wire. Most customers connect the device right to the battery or fuse box, others connect it to an always powered wire in the dashboard or back by a taillight in the trunk.
Two considerations that lead to a successful installation are:
1. Red wire is connected to a power source that is always powered. You don't need to worry about the device draining your battery because it has a motion sensor in it and only draws 3 to 4 milliamps of power when not moving.
2. Green and Amber lights turn solid. When you first connect the device to power you will see two lights. Both should be flashing. Green represents GPS connection and Amber represents wireless connection with the network. Point the GPS antenna side of the device up towards the sky so that it can connect with the GPS satellite network.
Common installation locations are:
> In the trunk pointed out the taillight
> In the engine compartment pointed out the headlight
> In the dashboard as close to the windshield as possible
If the vehicle looses power, the device has an internal battery that will allow it to continue to locate for approximately 4 hours and you can have it notify you when the internal battery begins to run low.- Answered by David M from Mission Viejo

is there a mountly fee,,, do you make pyment fee per month service??????
- Asked by Gilbert P from Miami
- Nov 14, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerStandard monthly service fee for the U.S. and Canada is $12.95 a month. If you want to use your device outside of the U.S. or Canada, the international roaming service fee is $29.95 per month. Your device should work anywhere in the world that has GSM cellular coverage.
The PocketFinder purchase price includes 2 months of standard service. If you add international service during one or both of the first two months, the monthly service fee will be reduced to $17 ($29.95 - $12.95 = $17) for those months. The monthly service fee will revert to $29.95 starting in the third month.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

Will it work in Colombia, South America?
- Asked by Arturo A from Doral
- Nov 9, 2011

Best AnswerPocketFinder devices operate on the GSM network, which covers most of the wireless world. I believe Columbia does operate on the GSM network but you should double check just to be sure there is cell coverage in the area that you intend to use the device.
Also, there is an international roaming fee of $29.95 per month if you're outside of the US or Canada.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

Best AnswerThe monthly service fee for US and Canada is $12.95. Including all of Mexico $15.95 and for complete international roaming the monthly service is $29.95. This includes unlimited zones, locates and notifications.
The red wire connects to an always on power source for your vehicle and the black wire to a ground. There is an optional third white wire that if connected to a fuse that is hot only when the ignition is on you can track idle time as well as engine on and off start and stop times. Perfect for a business daily activity report and to know if your vehicles are sitting idle for long periods of time in the summer with the air-conditioning on.- Answered by David M from Mission Viejo

can it work without the monthly fee.? For use outside United States
- Asked by Tatiana C from Weston
- Sep 10, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe device cannot operate without a monthly service fee because it uses a cellular network to transmit the GPS way-points. Think of it like a mini cell-phone. However, unlike a cell phone, PocketFinder doesn't require a service contract, so you can keep the device de-activated and only turn on your account when you need to access the location information. You'll still be billed for the month of service, but you don't have to keep the device turned on all the time.
PocketFinder does work outside of the US, but you'll need to notify customer service that you need international service. The fee for international service is higher than the standard monthly fee.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

What is the signal refresh rate?
I'm not sure if my terminology is correct, but what I'm asking is how often will I receive data in the event of a stolen vehicle? I've looked at several systems, with rates ranging from 220 times per second to 1 posting every 10 to 20 minutes. The faster the response, the easier it is to track the vehicles movement in real time. This information is very important and should be included in the general description.
- Asked by Adam W from Des Moines
- Aug 19, 2012

Best AnswerThe device is set to locate once every 5 minutes. however, you can call customer service (at any time) and ask them to change the rate to every minute. I did that for my vehicle. I personally really like the 1 minute setting.
Also, the PocketFinder has a feature called, "Instant Zone", which allows you to create a geo-fence from your iPhone or iPad with the touch of a button. That way, if your car is stolen, you'll get an email/text within a minute of its leaving the zone.
Hope that helps!- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

Answer
PocketFinder devices operate on the GSM network, which covers most of the wireless world. India, however, is one of the few countries that does not have 100% GSM coverage. So the answer to your question is that the device may work in India depending on where you are and whether or not that particular area has GSM coverage. Also, there is an international roaming fee of $29.95 per month if you're outside of the US or Canada.

Can the device be mounted anywhere on the vehicle?
In order to conceal it from criminals I would like to mount it in a place where it would be difficult to locate.

AnswerThe device needs to be connected to your vehicle's battery and/or your vehicle's fuse box. In theory, once the device is properly connected to a power source, you can place the unit anywhere that doesn't pose a fire or mechanical hazard.
However, it's important to keep in mind that the PocketFinder devices require GPS to work, which means they must be able to communicate with the GPS satellites. Therefore, in order to receive the most accurate locates, the devices should be installed according to the installation guide which can be found on the pocketfinder.com website. Just click on “Vehicles” and then “Installation Guide” at the bottom middle of the page for more information. You can also contact customer service if you have any other questions.
Regardless of where you mount the PocketFinder Vehicle, you should always check the strength of the GPS and cellular connections prior to completing the install. You can do this by viewing the two LED lights on the device. The green light represents the GPS signal and the amber light represents wireless signal. When both lights stop flashing and are solid, you have achieved a successful connection to the networks.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

Does it connect to vehicles 12 volt battery ?
I see two a harness with two cables on the pictures .
Does this device connects to the vehicles 12 volt battery ?- Asked by Irving T from Miami
- Dec 26, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerYes it can. The primary difference between the PocketFinder and the PocketFinder Vehicle (other than the form factor) is that the Vehicle device is powered by your vehicle so you don't have to recharge it.
You can connect the device to your vehicle's battery or through your vehicle's fuse box (provided that the fuse to which the device is connected is "always on").
In order to maximize the GPS signal you want to have the GPS locator antenna facing up towards the sky. An installation instruction download is available from pocketfinder.com on the Vehicles page down at the bottom. It suggests installation locations and identifies which side of the device should face up.
The installation process is very simple and takes no more than 10 minutes on most vehicles.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine

What is the battery draw on this device?
If I have a hard wired connection, I don't want my vehicles battery going dead if it sits for a few days.
- Asked by Kyle H from West Chicago
- May 6, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerGood question. When the PocketFinder Vehicle isn't locating, the battery draw is 3-4 milliamps per hour. This small amount of drain means that the device should not have a noticeable impact on the battery life of your vehicle or watercraft.

If i was to buy say 2 or 3 and used them outside the US would i have 1 account for all 3 Or 1 account for each divice?
- Asked by Jose L from Mcallen
- May 6, 2012

AnswerEach Locator has an embedded SIM card in it so each device has it's own monthly service charge but you can have as many devices on one account as you'd like. Each Vehicle tracker will come profiled for use in the US and Canada. To add international coverage please call the customer support center at 866-726-7543. A huge benefit of having multiple vehicles or personal locators on one account is to see at a glance where everyone in your family or business is, where they have been and if moving where they are headed.

Can the PocketFinder be used indoors? Will it locate a person inside of a building?
- Asked by Laurel S
- Mar 20, 2012

- Asked about: PocketFinder Personal GPS Locator (…
Best AnswerThe answer is, it depends. In order for GPS to work, PocketFinder needs to be able to see the sky. So the more windows a structure has, the more likely the device will locate indoors. For instance, my device works well in my house, but I have a lot of windows. If, however, you're in a movie theater or indoor mall, it you might have more trouble receiving a locate.
Also keep in mind that PocketFinder needs cell signal as well, so if you can't send a text message with your phone, then the device probably won't be able to transmit the GPS location.- Answered by Gregory H from Irvine
