use on right or left arm
I have a fistula in my left arm and therefore can only take BP on my right arm. A unit I recently bought gives confusing directions on how to use it on my right arm. No matter what I try, the readings are consistently higher than those in my regularly scheduled clinic visits. Is a manual available on line?

Best Answer
I use mine on my right arm, too, since I suffer post stroke pain in my left arm.
The consistent high readings will be due to either different calibrations on the machines, or due to a consistent difference in the way you make the measurement. Various things like seating position can make a difference.
However, the objective for most people is just to reduce blood pressure as far as possible within reason. Although there are published guidelines, suggesting that "above 130/85" is mildly hypertensive, there's nothing magical about that figure.
If you can take account of the consistent difference, and focus on getting the pressure readings down over time, then it doesn't really matter if they're consistently higher with one machine rather than another. If the difference fluctuated wildly, then you might suspect that one machine wasn't working, but if the difference is consistent, then you can take that into account.- Answered by Ian E

Will this device work with the "lightning" connector on the iPhone 5?
I know there are adaptors for the lightning connector, but Apple say that some existing 30-pin connector devices won't work with the Lightning connector.
Will this device work with the iPhone 5? I ask because I'm thinking of upgrading my phone. If the answer is no, then that'll make the upgrade that more expensive for me.- Asked by Ian E

Answer
You're right, it will require an adaptor. Only Apple make working adaptors. They have quite sophisticated circuitry inside, apparently including an authenticator. So they're hard to reproduce.

does the software take the average of three readings?
- Asked by Robert V from San Francisco
- Oct 12, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
The average will be displayed at the end of the three measurement. If you go to your graph and zoom enough on the 3 measurements, you'll be able to see each reading separately. If you unzoom, it will appear as the average.

Pump-up is painfully tight. Is there any way to lighten the pressure?
- Asked by Janet S from Orange City
- Jul 28, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
No, the pressure has to be what it is, because it has to stop your circulation. You could try placing it slightly differently, but it's still going to get tight. It just might hurt less in a slightly different position.
I don't find it painful, but it is a little uncomfortable. I guess you just have to tell yourself that it's important, it's not harming you, and it's going to stop soon.- Answered by Ian E

Best Answer
You don't need a connection to perform a measurement or store it. But you need a connection to create an account and synchronize your measurements to your Withings account.

Can the cuff be used on the wrist? Or, must it be above the elbow?
Because of my weight normal blood pressure cuffs don't fit my arm. Have a wrist level device from Walgreens in the US, but am interested in this one. So was wondering whether it can be used on the wrist, or whether it has to be used on the upper arm.

Is this product reimbursable from an FSA account.
- Asked by Thomas C B from Lexington
- Feb 15, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
Technically, it should be. According to my FSA rep, BP monitors are on the reimbursement list. I just got mine, so the "order" hasn't been processed yet. I'll have to get back to you to tell you if they needed extra information. You may want to send the receipt anyway. The hardest part is buying it online using your FSA card if you can't find it at a store. There's a particular code that needs to go through for them to authorize it.
