Answer
The headphone jack would be used for input AND output. Since both signals would be traveling over the same wire, you would get a lot of annoying "cross talk" which is a fancy term for that type of feedback. It is not realistic feedback like you may hear on a guitar amp, either. To solve this, you simply use the dock connector for input and headphone jack for output. This eliminates crosstalk for a very real sound.

Will it work with Keyboards and Synthesizers?

Best AnswerI recorded a track yesterday using a USB keyboard, a Korg K49, into the USB camera connector, triggering the keyboard, drum and bass sound in GarageBand on the iPad, no problem whatsoever. The only trick was powering the keyboard from it's own adaptor, as the iPad can't provide enough power to run the keyboard over USB.

Is there audio out or do I need to use the iPads mic out?
I would like to know if this device has pass through that I can take the output and plug into my amp. I don't really want to use the mic-out provided by the iPad as this wouldn't be the correct impedance for my amp.
