It is different to the current one. It uses a new DAC that improves distortion and it now goes louder still than the old. It's also got new drive units to improve the sound even better. It takes a lot of technology and parts from the MM-1's which sound incredible so it should be a good improvement on the current speakers.

As for the difference in AirPlay and iPod/iPhone direct, only time will tell. Everyone in our office bought an original Zeppelin but we all had very different experiences with interference noise from the iPhones on the units. My gut feeling is that I'd rather do AirPlay if my Wi-Fi is good enough but my current experience of AirPlay from iPhone to Apple TV is not good with constant dropouts and in some cases a total stop. Hopefully, iOS 4.3 final build will solve these issues.

I think I would wait for reviews and user experiences before jumping in. It's on my shopping list but I'll be waiting a month or 2 for the dust to settle before parting with that kind of money.

It should be possible, it depends on the audio output on your TV... But I doubt you'll be able to connect it wirelessly, the simpliest way will be to use a usual jack cable...

Unfortunately, it will not function as a speakerphone. If you have an iPhone docked you will hear: keyboard clicks, alarms, phone ringer and other alerts, etc...

Zep Air has one centrally mounted woofer measuring 125mm or 5.0 inches, driven by a 50 watt amplifier. It has twin ports to increase bass output, which use B&W's Flowport design for improved bass definition

It depends on the router. Apparently, the Airport Extreme can handle mixed g/n connections without letting the g drag the whole thing down. But the Airport Express is not as sophisticated. You'd have to find out from other manufacturers how their routers fair.

Although, my answer is quite late, perhaps it will help someone else buying products in the US for use in Japan.

The voltage in Japan is 100V. The voltage in the US is 120V. Both countries have ungrounded (2-prong) plugs that fit interchangeably. Personally, I find the difference in voltage negligible. I think only really sensitive equipment will have problems with the voltage difference. I lived in Japan for a year and a half, and used a US bought, non-Apple laptop and external hard drive JUST FINE without plug adaptors or voltage converters.

It will link up with the IPad, but it does not link up through bluetooth like the Jawbone. It links up through your wireless router system using Airplay.

No. The Zeppelin Air is an endpoint for audio streaming. It can act like an Airport Express when the Airport Express is set to be an audio endpoint.

The sound quality is better in the air model, and has a new design and speakers inside, over airplay no quality is lost at all so yes it would be better,
