Is it worth the extra to get MacBook Pro 13 retina over regular MacBook Pro 13. Using for a lot of photographic editing
I am tossing up between the MacBook Pro 13 inch or the same MacBook but with retina display, I will be doing a lot of photography, but don't want to have space restrictions. Is it worth the money to buy retina?

I am looking to do all my accounting, simply, quick booke etc on a lap top from now on, is mac a good contender for these purposes and which mac book?

AnswerMac is good for this. I would get a Mac with at least a 500 gb hard drive. As far as which Mac, it doesn't really matter if your just making spreadsheets or documents for accounting purposes. If you would keep your Mac at home, I'd recommend the basic iMac, if you will be taking your Mac with you, I'd recommend the basic MacBook Pro. For your purposes you won't need a lot of computing power, just a lot of memory.

can I simply transfer my current win7 environmet to a new mac book pro with parallels and have all my windows software work? is porting easy or hard?
I have a high performance pc based laptop with lots of software and am considering a high performance mac book. I really really don't want to have to do a windows install, then do a autocad install then do a microsoft office install then .... etc etc etc.

- Asked about: Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac - Stand…
Best AnswerI ported my Win 7 complete with all its applications, and everything works, including MS Office. I used an external disk to do the port, which took about an hour in total, following the good instructional steps in Parallels. I moved my data separately, and sat it all in my Mac folders, so I had to change some default 'save' settings in Office etc. I had to go online to re-validate Win 7. Copy and paste between Windows and OS X apps works beautifully.

AnswerYes. I saved my files to a thumb drive and when launching a new return in Turbo Tax, it asks what location your 2011 returns are in. TT had no issues reading the files generated on a PC. Hope this helps

what is mountain lion & snow leopard ?
Sorry guys, I am just looking at buying an Imac, but don't know anything abut them ??

Best AnswerMountain lion and snow leopard are different updates of the computer operating system, OS X. Mountain lion is the name given for OS 10.8 and Snow Leopard is the name given for OS 10.6, with Lion in the middle at OS 10.7.
But if you buy a new iMac, it should come with the latest version of the operating system, which is Mountain Lion, currently at 10.8.2. And if it is running Snow leopard or higher, than you can upgrade online by opening the "App Store" on the iMac and buying and downloading the upgrades to get to the latest release.
Of course, if you are buying an older iMac, then double check which version of the operating system is the highest one that will run on that machine. Each new version has system requirements that an older machine may not meet.- Answered by Larry S from Brookline

can i run Quickbooks Pro 13 on my Mac
I purchased Account Edge software a few years ago, and it as not as user friendly as Quickbooks. Everyone I do business with uses Quickbooks, and it would make it simpler and cost effective to use Quickbooks Pro 2013. Will I be able to run this program, without a lot of hiccups, with all of my Mac products. I have desktop, Macbook Pro laptop, IPad, iPhone, and that is why switched over to Apple, so that everything syncs, and it is "idiot" proof. I am better when everything flows, and runs smoothly.
Please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help. :)

I need a new computer. I've always had a Mac. All I need it for is Quicken. Can I get another Mac, or do I have to switch to Windows?
I've heard that Apple will no longer support Quicken.
If I have to switch to a PC, I will. just don't want to.- Asked by Leo R from Morris

AnswerJust for interest - it may help.
I've been a Quicken used since first it came to the UK (now, sadly, no longer available) and currently run Quicken XG2004 UK Version R2 on my iMac (OSX 10.8.3) on a virtual PC running under VirtualBoxVM.
Originally, I had Quicken installed on my PCs and used it for several years running under Win XP-pro, but when I decided to get an iMac 3 years ago, I had a similar dilemma that you now have.
However, I was encouraged to try Oracle's VirtualBoxVM and install a virtual PC on the iMac. This works a treat - although you'll need a copy of Windows to install on this virtual PC. During set up, you allocate basic memory, storage size and display memory sizes, IDE controller etc using the VirtualBox manager, which is very easy to use.
When ractive, this virtual PC acts exactly as a stand alone PC running any PC applications (Word, Excel etc), except it's much faster. You can have it interface with the iMac, display it on the same screen at the same time as Mac software. The best thing about it is that VirtualBox is free !
VirtualBoxVM can support several pseudo systems - you select what you want to run when opening. My version is configured the same as, and effectively mimics, my old PC. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.- Answered by David N from Winslow
