can I simply transfer my current win7 environmet to a new mac book pro with parallels and have all my windows software work? is porting easy or hard?
I have a high performance pc based laptop with lots of software and am considering a high performance mac book. I really really don't want to have to do a windows install, then do a autocad install then do a microsoft office install then .... etc etc etc.

Answer
I ported my Win 7 complete with all its applications, and everything works, including MS Office. I used an external disk to do the port, which took about an hour in total, following the good instructional steps in Parallels. I moved my data separately, and sat it all in my Mac folders, so I had to change some default 'save' settings in Office etc. I had to go online to re-validate Win 7. Copy and paste between Windows and OS X apps works beautifully.

can I install a HIS Radeon HD 7970 GPU in a MacPro (mid 2012)?
Pre-sales TECHNICAL question regarding the HIS Radeon HD 7970 GPU....
What I need is TOP graphic & scientific processing power! (HD video/photo editing, CAD, 3D rendering, multi monitors support)
I own an Apple MacPro desktop (mid-2012) with one card ATI Radeon 5800 series (as per Apple specs). Using programs that detect GPUs, the card is identified as ATI Radeon HD 5870.
I'm thinking in upgrading it to two HIS Radeon 7970 cards (or similar ATI cards).
Do you guys know if the this card HIS (or ATI) is compatible with the MacPro?
Any information that will place me in the right track will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

What are the challenges of using Mac instead of PC,especially as a grad student?
I am in the process of switching from PC to Mac-book. After detailed research I found that it is hard to get rid of Microsoft stuff even if you are using Mac. Such as software, blackboard, office, adobe Acrobat...etc. I went to apple store to see if there are solutions for that they told me you need to buy a parallel ($80)which lets you install windows ($70) to use the software because most of them are not supporting Mac, and you need an office for Mac ($79 for student), and so on. Technically, I must spend lots of money($1,600) to use the hardware of Mac and the software are still Windows based and interface.
I really don't like Microsoft products and love apple products, my experiences with my iPhone and iPad are amazing, please your advice to convince me that switching to Mac is the right move. Thanks!- Asked by Karzan B from Saint Louis

Answer
Do an internet search for "apple.com iphone specs".
The iPhone 5 requires the following to sync iTunes with Mac:
- Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the last update of Snow Leopard)
- iTunes 10.7 or later- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

You probably already have your answer, but yes. A few of the options that I have been looking into are the Henge Dock, BookEndz, and the ViDock. The ViDock isn't specific for any laptop; rather it works for any laptop with a pc card slot. None of the options are as powerful as, say, an HP docking station. You will have multiple things to plug in still. Apple needs to pull their heads out of their nether regions and realize that professionals would like to use their equipment, but have needs for docking stations and multiple monitors.

About vocal effects on GarageBand...
I would like to know if you can sing with reverb on GarageBand?
What I mean is; while recording a vocal you have your headphones on and would like to sing with reverb for added confidence. During the take is it possible to have reverb on instead of just singing dry?
I understand you can apply it afterwards but am interested to know if it can be turned on for the take. You hear what you are singing through the headphones but would like the added effect on top at the same time.
Thanks :)- Asked by Lorna C

Short answer - yes. Microsoft has a Mac Native version of Office that comes in Home/Student and Professional flavors. I like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 2011 on the Mac better than the current version of the same programs on PCs. Unless you need to interface with an Exchange Server and require the full functionality of Outlook, go with the home/student version that doesn't include Outlook.
Alternatives: Apple's iWork components are Office Compatible and they do a pretty good job for a smaller price tag. There's also Open Office which is a free, Open Source effort (like Firefox) that is also pretty good. However, neither option is a complete replacement for MS Office.- Answered by Christopher H from Virginia Beach
