Can I buy a new I Mac WIth the slot for DVD, Cds?
To keep new downloads coming to my 2009 Leopard I mac I need to either upgrade to Snow Leopard or buy a new computer with Mt. Lion installed, but I don't want to buy one without the slot for DVDs, etc. Does the new slim model replace all other updated I Macs?

Which Printers are compatible with Mountain Lion?
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. The printer I have is not compatible with the new operating system. Which printers are compatible with Mountain Lion?
- Asked by Lynne K from Oakland Gardens

AnswerI don't know if there is a compatibility list. Plus, printers that are not compatible can be made compatible once an updated driver (or installer) is released... so what was incompatible last month, may be compatible now.
Sometimes, one can make a printer work with a new OS, by changing the way the installation occurs. (I have four old printers with ethernet connections. I purchased two of the printers when I was still running OS 9. They were supposedly not "supported" after OS 10.4, but I was able to install manually in Mountain Lion after days of trial and error. Each printer cost several thousand dollars so the effort was justified.) For another printer, I had to wait months before the manufacturer released an updated driver. Until the driver was released, whenever I went to the manufacturer's site (Canon), it said to expect a new Mountain Lion driver sometime in the next 18 months.
Try doing one or both of the following:
1) do an internet search with keywords: "your printer model" "driver" and "Mountain Lion". There may be an updated print driver or installer available.
2) repost your question here, but this time ask "How to Install Printer with Mountain Lion?". Provide details about your printer such as Make, Model, and what types of connections it has such as USB and/or Ethernet.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Can you change the keyboard language?
Hi, I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro (13") but a lot of what I type is in French. Is it possible to change the keyboard language so it types with the accents? I know on older models, you can change the language of the laptop. I don't need the accents to be written on the keyboard, I just need to know that it has the ability to type accents (withot using alt commands, preferably).

Best AnswerYes, there is. Here's how:
1. Open system preferences.
2. Choose "Language & Text".
3. Choose "Input Sources".
4. On the left you will find a list of keyboard layouts for different languages. Check the ones you want to be readily available. There are 3 layouts for French on my version of OSX.
5. At the bottom check "Sow input in menu bar". This will insert a flag icon in the menu bar.
6. Clicking on the flag icon in the menu bar lets you choose which layout you want to use.
7. Choose "Show Keyboard Viewer" from that same menu to see what the layout looks like.
For the French layout the row of numbers at the top turns into & é " ' ( § è ! ç à respectively.- Answered by Seth M from Chicago

AnswerYes, but you can't write to the drive or create files on the drive if it is formatted with NTFS. The only operating systems that can write to NTFS are Windows and Linux. Reading files from the drive will work.

Best AnswerAs of Boot Camp 4.0, Windows XP is no longer supported. All new Mac's ship with Mountain Lion and therefore have the latest version of Boot Camp installed.
You can still use third party software such as "Parallels Desktop" to create a virtual machine within OSX and then install Windows XP there, but if you wan't to install Windows through Boot Camp you will need to purchase Windows 7.- Answered by Michael B

why don't I need a separate anti-virus program?
- Asked by Tricia G from Long Beach
- Feb 1, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerI have a fear of computer viruses and spyware, which is one of the main reasons why I went to Mac.
1. Macs don't get most of those viruses PCs do. There is a MacroVirus which is a virus that eats Microsoft Office files, but that is the most popular, and it is VERY RARE.
2. Apple has built in defenses to keep you protected.
If you want to be more protected, I'd go for an Anti-Virus software, just to be safe.
Like I said, Virus on Mac is Super Rare.- Answered by Kelly Y from Renton
