- Asked about: AirPort Extreme Base Station
AnswerIf you are buying an airport extreme, you can run from the existing router provided your existing router has ethernet ports, preferrably 1000baseT for gigabit ethernet. If you router is many years old, you may want to eliminate it as it is probably slower than more modern routers and use the airport extreme directly.

Do i have to have airport
I'm getting a mac soon and a wireless printer will i have to to have airport to airprint if i already have a wireless router?

Answerright, if the printer has been designated as airprint compatible then you will not need this as your mac will find it on your network. However if the printer is not airprint designated then yes you will probably require one. the manufacturers book would tell you if the printer is wifi or not but even if it is, there is no guarantees your mac will communicate with it properly - i had this issue using my router with my kodak, it didnt work unless i used my airport express, cannot explain why
my advice buy a proper airprint printer from apple store and save costs of airport express- Answered by Keneth W

Best Answer
If you want a server, Mac is probably not your best option unless you have a specific need to run Mac programs. Mac is a desktop computer. Even the Apple website itself uses a Linux-based server. Good server operating systems include Linux (CentOS or Red Hat), OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD.

- Asked about: Apple USB Ethernet Adaptor
Best AnswerYes, but due to the way in the Air works out routing, the wired connection will take precedent unless:
1) The wired and wireless are on different networks and you are trying to communicate with someone on the same network as your wireless connection (This is known as 'directly connected')
2) You manually enter a specific route and point it out of your wireless interface
3) You remove the default gateway from your wired connection (In which case you will only communicate do 'directly connected' network via your wired port unless you enter a manual route as per point 2 above)
I hope that makes sense.- Answered by Paul B from Coventry

Can I connect my smart TV to an Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable?
I want to buy a new router to extend my current network and also to plug in my iMac and LG Smart TV via the ethernet ports as we are looking at connecting to the NBN. Would I be able to connect my TV to the Airport via ethernet, and would i be able to plug a switch into one of the ports if I have the need to plug in more than 3 devices?

- Asked about: AirPort Extreme Base Station
Best AnswerYes, thats my simple answer, but the Airport Extreme puts out a wireless signal, and your TV should be able to pick up a wireless signal. So if you want to connect it wirelessly.
A switch should work in one of the ports. Have you looked into buying a main router and then the AirPort Express. It's 99$ and it works great. It has one Ethernet port so you put it right next to the device you want to connect and then plug the Ethernet into the Airport Express from the device.- Answered by John S from Ankeny
