I listen to audiobooks from Audible, Great Courses, or the library often and have done so on the classic, an iTouch and iPhone. The nano isn't quite as satisfactory for me because the controls aren't as quick to access. The voice quality is fine on all of them and there's no difference among them on choice of books -- all can access the same items once put into iTunes. I do not buy audiobooks directly from iTunes as Audible includes a wish list as well as a searchable library.

The current generation nano cannot take pictures as it does not have a camera, nor can it access the Internet as it does not have wifi. However, previous iPod nanos from around 3 years ago could take photos.

The latest shuffle is supplied with a USB to mini-jack cable. Plug the minijack into the headphone socket and the USB end into either a computer or standard USB charger outlet.

I run on the treadmill with my Ipod Nano 7th Gen. and no shoe sensor and it works great! It records time, pace, distance, and calories burned.

But you can buy them separately.
If I were you I would just buy the Nano because of it's capability.
But if you really want the shuffle then remember you can buy them separately.

No. It comes with its own cute little cable which connects through the headphone hole
