Does the new iPad have cell phone capabilities?

Best AnswerHmm. Don't agree with answers. MagicJack has app that can be used on iPad. If wifi available no cell service needed. To make calls it is free. To receive calls you need to sign up. $20 a year, yes a year. Use earbuds for private conversation. Well at least others won't hear what the other person says. Works great. I'm told sound quality is good. Gotta love iPad.

LTE stands for Long-Term Evolution and is a broad, still evolving standard under which 4G-type technologies are grouped. It operates on a different segment of the wireless spectrum and it is incompatible with 2G/3G technology. It has essentially become more of a marketing term instead of a definitive standard.

What is the dirrerence between an i pad with wifi and one with 4g or both
- Asked by Sarah E

Best AnswerA HUGE DIFFERANCE. Basically, wifi is only in some places so say you are in the middle of the road, you can't get wifi there obviously cuz no one is giving it out. buy 4G is a cellular signal. meaning that it is every where (depending on what carrier you have verizon covers more placed that att) and if you are in the middle of the road you will get 4G. u need some kind of signal (wifi,3g,4g) to do stuff like surf the web,buy apps and go on you tube. get it now if not just ask ill explain it agin :)

iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular can roam worldwide on GSM/UMTS networks. In countries without compatible LTE networks, iPad with Retina display will operate on GSM network technologies such as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. When you travel internationally, you can use a micro-SIM card from a local carrier.- Answered by Maureen H from Rochester

Answer
You can sign up for it from your ipad, provided you need 3G/4G data access. If you are happy using WiFi then no need to sign up for additional data. Just use it home wifi or other free wifi services.
Also ipad data plans are month to month, no contracts. Use it one month, don't use it the next.- Answered by Anil S from Irvine

Best AnswerThe Ipad does not come "Locked", What you will want to look at is the bands that each of the providers has available.
From what I have seen the Verizon model has the ability to be used with most other providers.
There are no contracts as the Ipad is not subsidized in its cost as a cell phone is and the cellular is month to month as you need it.- Answered by Todd B from Hudson

Can I receive text messages from all cell phones on my iPad mini or just from apple phone
- Asked by Toni T from Aventura
- Feb 24, 2013

Best AnswerNo. You can only send/receive to/from Apple devices as they use iMessage and your connected email address(es) to accomplish this. The iPad mini does not know your cell phone's number- it just knows your Me/iCloud account.
Also note that, physical limitations aside, even with a sim and a "phone number" for your iPad mini, you can not send/receive texts/calls because you would only have a data plan through your wireless carrier.- Answered by Justin E from Oregon City

Best AnsweriPad isn't network locked so I have never had any trouble using it in Uganda straight out of the box. So it should work the same way. The only challenge now is getting our networks up to speed with the nano-sims. Although, there are quite a few tutorials on the internet of people cutting micro-sims to nano-sims.
