Yes you can read books, get the free ibooks app thru the apps store and then go shopping in the ibooks store - you can get books via other apps too. You can resize the font and change the brightness etc.

Yes you can. When you buy a movie in iTunes, you will be able to select S.D. (Standard definition) or H.D. H.D. Does cost more though.

yes- in a short answer.. i use my ipad mini at work daily.. its in an otter box all the time in case i dropped it-but to this day-it looks like it did when i took it out of the box... just dont get it wet...hope this helps..

Can you transfer the video (home movie) onto a dvd to keep?!

No the iPad will not be the best solution. For recording, it is awkward recording with. For editing it should be fine. For storing to DVD not possible one the device, you would have to send them to your computer then burn it there. I recommend a HD Camcorder that uses SD cards and a decent computer at least, but recommend a MacBook Pro (non retina model) to edit and burn

Can I replace my broken laptop with just and iPad? Ie can I a manage my iTunes library and connect to home wifi with just iPad? I have iphone also.
I am happy that in terms of software and apps that just an iPad would meet my needs, as I can access a laptop at work on the rare occasions I need to create files etc. I am also happy that I don't need to access the Internet using iPad anywhere except at home.
However, I'm concerned whether I will be able to manage my iTunes library from an iPad without a main computer, as I also have an iphone and iPod to keep up to date
I also don't know if I can install my home broadband without a main computer - talk talk said to get another main computer when we discovered my laptop has just died, but I'm not clear if that was a recommendation or necessity?
It seems a bit slow if I can't operate with iPad as my main computer devise after all these years, but I'm worried from all the Internet posts asking this question there still seems to be no definitive answer i can find and no one who has actually attempted to do this. :(- Asked by Sarah M

Because of its size and weight, and - for me - the need to use a keyboard (Zagg) extension, I find it is actually easier to take notes in class with a paper notebook and pen. It is easier to do Word documents and presentations on a full-size computer/keyboard combination. I like my iPad (2) for reading books (especially the inter-active children's book, Brave, which is visually extraordinary), viewing YouTube.com, and playing games. Another drawback that I have with my iPad is that I am not always near a WiFi facility. I tried - and failed - to install a router at home, so I still have to connect to iTunes to download music, etc.
