- Asked about: AirPort Extreme Base Station
AnswerMyself, I canceled the cable years ago. $100/month strikes me as extortionate. The only downside for me is that I miss CNN & MSNBC. Even though the same news can be found on the web instantly, shows like Anderson Cooper appear a day later.
Otherwise, between Netflex, iTunes, Hulu, and others, there is more online streaming digital entertainment these days than any one person could possibly ever watch. True, you have to wait a day for the latest Downton Abbey to appear on pbs.org and sometimes a year or more for the newest HBO or Showtime series. Meanwhile there is certainly plenty to watch, and for me, the benefits of being able to watch whatever I want whenever I want far outweigh not being up to speed for chat on the hot show of the moment.
The only other possible drawback is that it does require some elementary technical common sense to either match-up the appropriate hardwired connections (HDMI vs, VGA or DVI, for example) or to pair up the wireless wifi connections if your TV is equipped for that.
AppleTV makes it dead easy for iTunes content, which while extensive can also get spendy fast if you watch a lot of it. Venturing outside the iTunes eco-system is of course entirely possible, but not totally intuitive if you are not mildly computer literate.
Myself, despite having a wifi-enabled TV, I've found it simplest to hardwire a Mac Mini to both the big flat screen AND my sound system, which gives me access to absolutely everything, along with the option to easily switch to web browsing to check my email, phone messages or the online news headlines via wireless keyboard and trackpad.
You can use your (new-ish) iPad the same way. I'm just fond of a real keyboard.
Bottom line, a minor learning curve is well worth $1,200 (or more!) per year. Also, depending on where you live, it might be worthwhile to make an under $100 investment in an antenna to pick-up the HD network content still broadcast for free over the air. Unfortunately Sky Go does not support Air Play. It will send to sound but you will just get a static image on the screen informing you the device does no t support HDMI output.
The same is true for the Sky Sports/News apps!- Answered by Anthony A from Chesham

Best AnswerYou cannot access Amazon Prime on Apple TV. It has various apps that you can access such as Hulu Plus, Netflixs, YouTube, and a few others. It does not allow you to add any other applications that it does not come with.

can I hook up my ipad 3 to a projector. And can I show my apps and websites on a tv

AnswerYes. I assume that "projector" means a TV or any other display that has HDMI audio+video input.
Method #1: Buy Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter (apron $50): one end goes into iPAD dock connection. The other end is dual: one connects to HDMI cable that goes into TV "projector" one is to plug into power - you will need it. Other AV connectors for iPAD don't have power input.
This way, your TV "projector" mirrors your iPAD. So you can watch movies or show photos, etc. on the big screen.
Method #2: Apple TV (aprox $100). This is cool because it's small enough to carry anywhere and is designed to connect to any TV HDMI port. You can then play anything on your iPAD or iPhone over local Wi-Fi. Has a remote control. But also gives you the ability to rent and stream/watch a movie, etc through Netflix or iTunes. No iPAD or Mac computer needed.
Method #3: If you want to do something similar but using MacBook or Mini Mac, get adaptor called "Mini Display Port" connector (AKA "thunderbolt" port) at one end to connect to Mac and HDMI connector at other end. Mac OS will detect it and make it an adjunctive display. OS is very smart that way. So you can use your big screen TV as an extra display. You can connect virtually any length HDMI cable (I've used 25 feet) between your Mac and your TV as long as the HDMI cable is up-to-date version.- Answered by Jane C from New York

Can I have 2 Apple TVs associated with the same iTunes account?
- Asked by Juan A P from Port St Lucie
- Oct 31, 2012

Best AnswerYes, it is not a problem at all. Once connected to your wireless network, each Apple TV can be linked to the iTunes account from the Apple TV on-screen interface. We also have iTunes running on separate computers simultaneously (using the same iTunes account) and each Apple TV will recognize and interact with each of the computers (provided of course that file sharing is turned on in iTunes on each of the computers). This way you can access different people's play lists, music libraries, shared photos, and shared movies from any of the Apple TVs.
I hope this is helpful.- Answered by Robert M from Dallas
