How do you stand up an iPad mini in portrait?

It appears that the smart cover would not work in portrait as a stand.

Will the cover attach to either side of the iPad mini? I'd like to set the mini in landscape mode with the left side of the screen down.

All the pictures show the cover attached on the right side of the iPad mini and unfortunately my tv streaming app would be upside down if I couldn't attach this cover on the other side of the mini and fold it as a stand. Trying to see if that is possible or not.

Since there is no smart case for ipad yet, I was going to get a normal case and then buy the smart cover but want to make sure it fits.
