can you use a smart cover with an Otterbox

I am wondering about getting some additional cover to go with my Otterbox, so that the screen is covered. I carry the iPad around with the Otterbox, and dust gets in between the front of the Otterbox and the screen.

Which material is best to get? I like the feel of the leather but I worry about durability and permeability.

should i get a smart case for my ipad 4 or a smart cover and just a case for the back

ive searched the ipad smart case and i hear its not that good as a stand and that its too expensive
