can you use time capsule as a hard drive
I am running out of memory and would like to transfer data like photos to another hard drive and erase the photos from my Macbook. Can I use the time capsule or is an external hard drive better. Also I have one but it doesn't show what I have stored in it. It is only for back ups. Want one that I can access and able to view pics, documents etc. Any advice??

Can I access data stored in Time Machine on a PC or a Mac running an older version of OSX, or can I only retrieve TM data by using TM?
I've just had a total HDD failure on my Mac and lost all my data. I'm now considering using Time Machine but it seems to take up a lot of space and I'm not sure how easy it will be to access the files. Can the backups be accessed like any normal stored files? Will I be able to plug my Time Machine hard drive into any computer and retrieve the files manually, or can I only access them on a computer running Leopard?

What is the difference between the Time Capsule and an external hard drive? I want to store photos externally to free up space on my Mac.
I am wanting to free up space on my Mac to help it perform tasks faster. Since I have over 10,000 photos on my MacBook hard drive, it seems to be slowing down. I have a Time Capsule, but should I also get an external hard drive to store all photos? I guess I don't understand the difference between the two. I was thinking I could then delete the photos (if I had an external hard drive) on my MacBook Pro to free up more space. Is this logical?

How do you use the time capsule as an external wireless drive?
I am trying to store some files on my external hard drive and I am wondering how to do this. Do I drag the files into Time Machine backups when that shows up or do I put them in the shared drive?

Can I use an older Time Capsule as an external hard drive (for iTunes media) and have it back up to a new TC via Time Machine?
Currently, I have a Macbook with a nearly full hard drive. I also have a more-than-full 500GB Time Capsule.
I am thinking of buying a new 2TB Time Capsule to use with Time Machine and to serve as my wireless router.
I want to move my 250GB iTunes library off of my Macbook and onto my older TC, which I'll use as an external hard drive.
Here are my questions:
1. Will the old TC be overwhelmed as a dedicated iTunes disc?
2. Will my Macbook and my Apple TV (and a future iPad, hopefully) be able to access my iTunes library wirelessly if it is stored on the old TC?
3. Will the old TC be able to back up to the new TC wirelessly?
Are there any other issues with this plan?
I truly appreciate any advice or feedback. Thanks so much.- Asked by Brian J from Windham

can I use time machine to back up a computer to an external hard drive connected to time capsule?
I have a time capsule (1TB) which is now full, as it is backing up three computers. I would like to connect an external hard drive to the time capsule and back up one computer to the external hard drive and the others to the time capsule. Is this possible, and if so, how?

How easy it it to set up time capsule as client to an existing network? What is gained or lost by doing this?
I am thinking about purchasing Time Capsule, but have seen several review comments where users did not find that this worked easily or at all. I spoke with a person in an Apple Store and that is how he indicated he uses his at home. We have a system that is working fine for various of our other computers. I am taking an "If it is not broken, do not fix it" approach to my thinking. If I would be better with a large external hard drive and simply use Time Machine, I can live with that, but do like the notion of a wireless incremental backup. Thanks

Transferring Time Machine backups
I'm currently using a 2TB Seagate external hard drive for my Mac backups. Love the simplicity and integration of the 2TB Time Capsule. But will I be able to transfer my old Time Machine backups?

Is there a way to back up the HD connected to the Time Capsule as well as my computer's hard drive?
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule with attached 500GB LaCie external hard drive (this contains my music, video and photos, which no longer fit on my computer's hard drive). My computer's hard drive backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine - no problem. Is there a way to set this up so that the LaCie, which is connected to the Time Capsule, also backs up automatically to the Time Capsule? Or will I need to periodically (manually) copy and paste the files on the LaCie to the Time Capsule? For safety's sake, I want two copies of the files on the LaCie - one on the LaCie and a second copy on the Time capsule. Thanks for any advice!
