Can I use Time Capsule as 1) NAS and / or 2) iTunes server?
So I have a few devices which access the network at home:
- MacBook Pro
- MacBook Air
- iPad 2
- iPhone 4
- Apple TV
- Samsung internet-connected TV
- Playstation 3
- Xbox 360
I'm trying to decide on a single device which can act as an NAS, a single depository for files, and as an iTunes server to use primarily with Apple TV but certainly not limited to this.
Can the Time Capsule function as both, in addition to being the Time Machine back up machine? Neither? Maybe one? No one seems to have a clear answer on this.
Frankly, if it does only Time Machine back ups, I'll be looking elsewhere.- Asked by Don C from Los Angeles

Can I configure an NAS to attach via ethernet to Time Capsule. Which suggested NAS if true. (I need lots of space for 'Camera Raw' photos)
Currently have a 1/2 TB Time Capsule on the local network. Rather than attach yet another USB storage device to this iMac, I'd like to attach a 2TB NAS (Network Access Storage) device via ethernet cable to the Time Capsule and have use the NAS to off-load photos from all the computers on our local network. This iMac is connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule. Any suggestions on how to make this happen including suggested NAS would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Using Time Capsule with an existing network
I'm wondering if the Time Capsule will be right for my home and current setup;
At the moment, my main router (with wifi) is on the ground floor. The middle floor has an ethernet switch (connected to the main router) and the top floor has an ethernet switch (connected to the switch on the middle floor).
If I connected the Time Capsule to the switch on the top floor, could I use it as a wifi hotspot? (I barely get a signal on the top floor, so it'd be great if I could)
Would I be able to access the Time Capsule backup from any floor? Even if I was connected to the main routers' wifi and not the Time Capsule wifi?
Could I connect devices by ethernet to the Time Capsule? If I do, could that device connect to all other devices on the network or just devices on the Time Capsule?
What security do I have available to stop other people on the network from accessing my backup on the Time Capsule and the settings for the Time Capsule?- Asked by Joseph H

can you have multiple time capsules on the same network?
Looking to replace my first gen Time Capsule with a newer model with more HDD and dual-band capacity. Can I keep my old TC on the network when I upgrade to the new one and put the old one in bridge mode to expand the wireless network? And can I backup to BOTh devices, either redundantly or assigning different devices to different TC’s?
In terms of dual-band, am I better off using the old TC to create a separate network for b/g devices and use the new one exclusively for n devices, or will the new one handle dual-band adequately so the b/g signals won’t slow down n devices?- Asked by Jason S from Cranbury

Does spotlight search work on the time capsule?
I have two Macs both running lion and currently have a Buffalo NAS to keep all my documents on. Spotlight doesn't work with it which is a real pain. I won't be using it for time machine backups, just a central resource to hold all of my documents. I need the ability to search the content of files (not just the filename), especially pdf and word documents. Will this work or should I look elsewhere?

Can I use Time Capsule as a storage device as well as backup for my iMac using Time Machine, or can I only use it to back up files with Time Machine?
I'm currently using a WD 500GB Drive, which has a habit of turning itself into a standby state despite preference settings keeping it always on, and I have to restart the drive every time this happens, which is an inconvenience when storing files and no storage device is found when saving. I want to replace the WD with a 2TB Time Capsule and use the Time Capsule as a storage device, as well as a back up device via Time Machine for my iMac.

Can Time Capsule be used interchangeably with PC and Mac?
I'm looking at purchasing a Time Capsule and Mac Mini but have a few questions before I make the investment. First, would I be able to backup my files from my old desktop PC to the Time Capsule? The TC would be in an existing wireless network at one residence while backing up the PC. Then I would want to bring the TC to another residence with another existing wireless network where I would have the Mini, my iPad 2, iPhone 4 and iPod touch. If adding the TC to the second existing wireless network, would I still have the ability to wirelessly back up my Mini and iOS devices? Basically I've got an old desktop at my dad's house that I want to back up and then bring the TC to my apartment where I use my landlord's wireless Internet.

With a Dual Band Time Capsule, can devices communicate from different bands through the time capsule?
I have an iPhone 3Gs and an iPhone 4 that I wish to 'communicate' with my iMac which is set up to run on a 5Ghz 'N' network.
Will the Dual Band Time Capsule allow this to happen?
I am thinking about this all in relation to the iCloud and iOS 5 where the iPhones will be able to do wireless backups to my iMac, but don't work on my Airport Express 5Ghz 'N' network. Will a Dual Band TC or Airport Extreme solve this problem?
Cheers.- Asked by Martin S from Caulfield South
