Can TC be set up to not use DHCP and to connect to ethernet via a LAN instead of the WAN port? If so, how?
My daughter's dorm at college has some very fussy requirements and they provide instructions for setting up some wireless routers but not Apple wifi products.
"Your router must have its DHCP server completely disabled.
You should connect an ethernet cable from wall jack directly into one of the numbered jacks on the back of the router, NOT the WAN port."
In the airport utility setup I see I can switch DHCP to manual, but don't see how to turn it off.
When I accidentally hooked the ethernet to a LAN port it didn't work.

I do not plan to use this as a router--i have FIOS. I only want to use it as a way to back-up two IMacs. Is that reasonable?
As stated--this will NOT be a router. I like the wireless aspect of this--I know there are "better rated" hard drives. I am presuming I need to load the included software onto both of the IMacs. If I read correctly the "AirPort Utility" needs to be downloaded...and from there the TIME CAPSULE is set up...I am NOT connecting any ethernet cables. I am then presuming I have to access the TIME MACHINE app on the IMac--and it should be pretty self-explanatory???

Can Time Capsule back up a PC running Windows Vista?
Both of our family's MacBooks AND my wife's PC are able to use Time Capsule wireless signal with no problems.
The Macs are effortlessly backed up by the Time Capsule using Time Machine.
But even after installing Airport Utility onto the PC using the DVD/CD that came with the Time Capsule, the PC's Airport Utility can't find my Time Capsule. Page 18 of my little Time Capsule Setup Guide shows the PC being able to do this, so maybe something is wrong.
Is it possible for Time Capsule to automatically back up ALL our computers, both Mac and PC?
Thank you.- Asked by Antonio M from Anchorage

I use a Retina Macbook Pro which obviously doesn't have an ethernet port. Can the TC work wirelessly without the need of the TC being hard wired?
I have a few quick questions regarding the Time Capsule.
I'm interested in getting the 2TB version to backup my rMBP, an iMac and 2 external usb hard drives.
I'm assuming that back up works wirelessly for each device, once setup using the Airport Utility? There is no need to hardwire each Mac to setup and continue to use Time Machine on the TC?
I won't need to buy a Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter for my rMBP in order to use the Time Capsule on this machine?
The TC doesn't (and can't) replace my main router?

Does TC need to serve as the main base in an extended network in order to utilize TM backup? I would like to add an old refurb TC as an extender.
I have a new AE which works great. I have the opportunity to buy an old TC, but I do not want to use it as my primary base station because it lacks some of the features of my new AE. I would like to use the old TC as a wireless network extender. However, I would like to know if the TC/TM capabilities are functional if the TC is serving as an extender instead of as the primary station.

With a Dual Band Time Capsule, can devices communicate from different bands through the time capsule?
I have an iPhone 3Gs and an iPhone 4 that I wish to 'communicate' with my iMac which is set up to run on a 5Ghz 'N' network.
Will the Dual Band Time Capsule allow this to happen?
I am thinking about this all in relation to the iCloud and iOS 5 where the iPhones will be able to do wireless backups to my iMac, but don't work on my Airport Express 5Ghz 'N' network. Will a Dual Band TC or Airport Extreme solve this problem?
Cheers.- Asked by Martin S from Caulfield South
