Can I use Time Capsule as a storage device as well as backup for my iMac using Time Machine, or can I only use it to back up files with Time Machine?
I'm currently using a WD 500GB Drive, which has a habit of turning itself into a standby state despite preference settings keeping it always on, and I have to restart the drive every time this happens, which is an inconvenience when storing files and no storage device is found when saving. I want to replace the WD with a 2TB Time Capsule and use the Time Capsule as a storage device, as well as a back up device via Time Machine for my iMac.

Is there a way to back up the HD connected to the Time Capsule as well as my computer's hard drive?
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule with attached 500GB LaCie external hard drive (this contains my music, video and photos, which no longer fit on my computer's hard drive). My computer's hard drive backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine - no problem. Is there a way to set this up so that the LaCie, which is connected to the Time Capsule, also backs up automatically to the Time Capsule? Or will I need to periodically (manually) copy and paste the files on the LaCie to the Time Capsule? For safety's sake, I want two copies of the files on the LaCie - one on the LaCie and a second copy on the Time capsule. Thanks for any advice!

Can an old Time Capsule be used as Hard Drive for media files so I can get a new TC for backup?
As I have gotten into editing and archiving family video, I have filled up my iMac's memory and my Time Capsule is also full. Can I "empty" the backup data from my original TC and direct my iTunes media to be stored there and then buy a new TC with more memory to resume by backups?
If I do this, will all my media still be "visible" to AppleTV so I can still access it via AppleTV and be able to stream it to my entertainment system?
If so, how do I remove all the backup data from the original TC?- Asked by Patrick G from Cambridge

will time capsule slow my internet connection?
Interested in getting a TC to back up from an iMac, macbook pro, and 3 iPhones. Though I am curious to how it would effect the speed of my internet connection rather that just buying a firewire external Hard drive and being diligent with my updates

Can I attach a USB drive to Time Capsule to access music folders on a PC and Mac?
I know similar questions have been asked before but I wanted to describe my specific scenario before I purchase a TC.
I have a Mac and a PC on my home network, and the issue I keep running into is that it's hard to keep music up to date on both computers. If I put new music on one computer, I then have to hook up an external USB drive and transfer that music to the other one.
So my question is this: if I buy a Time Capsule, can I use the Time Capsule to wirelessly back up my Mac AND attach an external USB drive to the TC to access my music?
The idea would be to have the music only available on that external USB drive and "point" iTunes to that drive on both the Mac and PC. That way, both computers are accessing the same files and I don't have to update the folders between two different computers.- Asked by Josh C from North Augusta

Can I retrieve specific files from Time Capsule?
I would like to use Time Capsule as an automated backup system but also store files (drawings, MS Office, music, pictures) that I don't want cluttering my Macbook's hard drive but may want to access in the future. Can I do both?

Transferring songs from iTunes to Time Capsule
My partner is a DJ and I have finally convinced him that my poor Acer laptop can no longer hold his excessively large collection of music that he uses to burn CDs required for his various gigs. He has agreed that we finally need to upgrade and look at getting an iMac. (yay!)
My question is, would the time capsule allow me to save all of our iTunes music files onto it to store, rather than store them on the PC? When he requires the songs, will the TC then allow him to stream relatively uninterupted back to the iMac for burning/listening/mixing?
I'm hoping to be able to get his music collection seperate storage to my basic music collection, and allowing me to keep the space on the iMac free for my photography etc.- Asked by Chloe W from Port Lincoln

can you use time capsule as a hard drive
I am running out of memory and would like to transfer data like photos to another hard drive and erase the photos from my Macbook. Can I use the time capsule or is an external hard drive better. Also I have one but it doesn't show what I have stored in it. It is only for back ups. Want one that I can access and able to view pics, documents etc. Any advice??

Can I use an older Time Capsule as an external hard drive (for iTunes media) and have it back up to a new TC via Time Machine?
Currently, I have a Macbook with a nearly full hard drive. I also have a more-than-full 500GB Time Capsule.
I am thinking of buying a new 2TB Time Capsule to use with Time Machine and to serve as my wireless router.
I want to move my 250GB iTunes library off of my Macbook and onto my older TC, which I'll use as an external hard drive.
Here are my questions:
1. Will the old TC be overwhelmed as a dedicated iTunes disc?
2. Will my Macbook and my Apple TV (and a future iPad, hopefully) be able to access my iTunes library wirelessly if it is stored on the old TC?
3. Will the old TC be able to back up to the new TC wirelessly?
Are there any other issues with this plan?
I truly appreciate any advice or feedback. Thanks so much.- Asked by Brian J from Windham

What is the best upgrade option for a Time Capsule?
I have a 500GB Time Capsule. With the recent purchase of a second mac I need a lot more backup storage space, so I'm weighing my options. I do NOT want to add more and more devices - I would prefer to either upgrade to a larger hard drive on my existing TC (if possible) or simply upgrade to a newer TC with a larger 2TB drive.
Aside from the above question, I'm also curious if there's a seamless process available to set up the new drive or TC without having to configure all the settings from scratch.- Asked by Walter A from Hialeah

Need a router(ASAP), need(want) a backup drive but scared that TC won't last long (everyone seems to have had a bad experience). Buy TC or don't buy?
Pros:
1. I have a xbox 360 that I will be streaming movies to (wirelessly), a wireless printer, an iMac (that I will use to download/stream large files), iPhone and iPad plus a netbook. TC should be able to easily handle the load (or so I hear).
Cons: (I may be wrong...pls correct me if I'm)
1. I hear that the product has an average life expectancy of about 18 months. So if I decide to use this as a backup drive, I'm screwed in 18 months.
2. The TC drive cannot be slipt/partitioned to be used as both an external hard-drive and a backup drive. So if I decide to put my music, photos, etc on it (so I can share my media on the network or access it w/out having my iMac to be constantly on), I cannot backup my harddrive to it.
3. Cost. Is it worth it? I may be able to buy a router and an external harddrive that combined, may provide what I need.
Random:
1. Should I instead, buy a router and an external harddrive that I can partition?

So should I buy it or get something(s) else?- Asked by Martin A from Miramar
