Can I use an old TC as an external drive attached via USB to a new Time Capsule?
I want to upgrade my 1st gen TC to the 2TB 2nd gen. Once I do that can I use the old TC as an external hard drive attached via USB to the new TC? Or even use it attached directly to my Macbook? Basically, can it run without issues without using it as a gateway?

Can I use an older Time Capsule as an external hard drive (for iTunes media) and have it back up to a new TC via Time Machine?
Currently, I have a Macbook with a nearly full hard drive. I also have a more-than-full 500GB Time Capsule.
I am thinking of buying a new 2TB Time Capsule to use with Time Machine and to serve as my wireless router.
I want to move my 250GB iTunes library off of my Macbook and onto my older TC, which I'll use as an external hard drive.
Here are my questions:
1. Will the old TC be overwhelmed as a dedicated iTunes disc?
2. Will my Macbook and my Apple TV (and a future iPad, hopefully) be able to access my iTunes library wirelessly if it is stored on the old TC?
3. Will the old TC be able to back up to the new TC wirelessly?
Are there any other issues with this plan?
I truly appreciate any advice or feedback. Thanks so much.- Asked by Brian J from Windham

How easy is it to migrate from a 1st gen Time Capsule to the latest?
I have a first gen Time Capsule, and I'm thinking of buying the latest model, but how do you go about transferring the settings from one TC to another? I'm using the TC as a wireless router as well, so all the wireless settings would need to be migrated, including security settings, MAC addresses, etc.
Is there an automated way to do this, or will I need to manually set up the new Time Capsule, by taking note of all the original TC's settings and putting them into the new one? I can't find much out there on this topic on the web. I'm hoping it will all be automated but would like to know how this would work, from anyone who might have done this themselves...

Will TC connect to Airport Express?
I have a: MacBook Pro, Apple TV, Xbox and Airport Express which is connected to a router. I would like to have a TC set up next to my Xbox and TV in a different room to my router. Will TC connect with Airport Express to access the internet wirelessly? And if so will i still be able to use my TC as a storage device on my network to play media through my Apple TV and MacBook Pro?

I use a Retina Macbook Pro which obviously doesn't have an ethernet port. Can the TC work wirelessly without the need of the TC being hard wired?
I have a few quick questions regarding the Time Capsule.
I'm interested in getting the 2TB version to backup my rMBP, an iMac and 2 external usb hard drives.
I'm assuming that back up works wirelessly for each device, once setup using the Airport Utility? There is no need to hardwire each Mac to setup and continue to use Time Machine on the TC?
I won't need to buy a Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter for my rMBP in order to use the Time Capsule on this machine?
The TC doesn't (and can't) replace my main router?
Thanks!- Asked by Chris J

can I migrate files from PC to MacBook Pro with TC?
I want to buy MBP to replace desktop PC. Will I be able to use PC files on MBP (Windows XP, MS Office, photos, iTunes files, Outlook contacts, etc)?
If I buy a Time Machine, can I transfer files from the PC to MBP using the TM? Is there a better way to migrate files?

Does TC work like Airport Express?
Meaning that:
1> When setup in Bridge Mode it connects wirelessly to my current WAP (Wireless Access Point), and will it also be a WiFi repeater?
2 > The Ethernet Ports work as a switch so when other devices are plugged in, they too will wirelessly connect to my home network?
3> The USB Port can be used to connect as a network printer (with Bonjour)?
4> And by doing all of the above it can hopefully still be used by my MAC's to do wireless Time Machine backups?- Asked by Jerry H from Lake Mary

If MacBook is stolen, how is a replacement restored using a time capsule?
Hey I have a Macbook Pro and thinking about buying a Time Capsule to have my date backed up.
If my laptop was to be stolen, or broken beyond repair, does the Time Capsule enable me to replicate exactly what was on my old Mac Book to a brand new one? Im thinking on the same lines as when you plug in a new iPhone into Itunes and it asks you if you want to restore from a previos phone?
Cheers

Can an old Time Capsule be used as Hard Drive for media files so I can get a new TC for backup?
As I have gotten into editing and archiving family video, I have filled up my iMac's memory and my Time Capsule is also full. Can I "empty" the backup data from my original TC and direct my iTunes media to be stored there and then buy a new TC with more memory to resume by backups?
If I do this, will all my media still be "visible" to AppleTV so I can still access it via AppleTV and be able to stream it to my entertainment system?
If so, how do I remove all the backup data from the original TC?- Asked by Patrick G from Cambridge

Can you use Time Capsule to expand a current wireless network the same way as Airport Express does?
I have a router at my home already and don't need to replace it, but I need a back up drive and more wireless area. Will this do the job for me, or do I settle for an Airport Express?

Consolidating media on TC...
I've been through a lot of the Q's on this product's Q&A thread but have one of my own:
- Currently, my iTunes Media Library is (on the most part) on my old Sony Vaio, with some larger files (mainly my TV show series) on a couple of external HDDs - I have a new Macbook that I don't want to ram with media..
My question is, how easy is it going to be to consolidate my entire iTunes media library on the TC so it can permanently be accessed from either my Macbook, Apple TV or iPhone etc... what steps would I have to go through to achieve this centrally stored media utopia?! (can I plug the HDD's via USB in to the TC and use my Mac to 'drag files' from the HDD's on to the TC?) - ultimately I want the files on the TC and the HDD'a put to pasture...
Equally.. with my library then on TC - if I buy an album on my iPhone or a film on my Mac... how do I 'sync' it over to the TC without messing about? (I don't want dupe files - one Time Machine backup version and one that I've manually 'copied' over to the TC iTunes Library...
I'm hoping all this will 'just work' :-S- Asked by Ryan W

Does TC need to serve as the main base in an extended network in order to utilize TM backup? I would like to add an old refurb TC as an extender.
I have a new AE which works great. I have the opportunity to buy an old TC, but I do not want to use it as my primary base station because it lacks some of the features of my new AE. I would like to use the old TC as a wireless network extender. However, I would like to know if the TC/TM capabilities are functional if the TC is serving as an extender instead of as the primary station.
