Can someone please confirm this device is ideal for my intended use
Hi All, New Mac products but loving it. Here's my intended use.
Connect Airport Extreme wirelessly to my current ADSL wireless router, add an existing external hard drive where I plan to store all my music, photos, movies, home movies etc such that they can be accessed by all my various machines running iTunes (MBP 15") Dell desktop PC and Vaio laptop. Each individual machine can then stream wirelessly to my ATV? I also plan to use this existing external HDD to backup my mac using TimeMachine. Final use would be to plug in my all in one printer / scanner / fax machine. Is this the right device, given that I already have an HDD or am I better off spending the extra money on the 2Tb or 3Tb Time Capsule, which I guess does the same as the above but with build in hard drive....
Or have I got it wrong?
ta muchly ;-)

Can a Powerline Adaptor be used to extend a network with Airport Extreme/Time Capsule?
My house is very large and the rooms do not adjoin (to get from one room to another there is outside wall/open air/outside wall). As such it is very hard to get a wifi signal throughout.
I have tried a succession of Airport Extreme/Express etc. but to no avail. I finally found a location in the house where the Base station will reach all but one room on a floor. So have placed a Time Capsule at one end of the house that reaches all but one room upstairs and an Airport Extreme at the other end that reaches all but one room. Each Base unit covers the room above/below that the other is missing. However they cannot see each other so I cannot share my iTunes around the house. I tried an Airport Express in between but it was ridiculously slow.
So I am thinking of using a Powerline Adapter as follows
Internet/iTunes(iMac) -> Time Capsule -> Powerline Adapter (upstairs)
then Powerline Adapter -> Airport Extreme (downstairs) to extend the network

How many clients can access the Space ship shaped Airport Extreme base station at one time?
I purchased an older Airport Extreme that had never been out of the box or used. I want to use in in my small business and have at least 13 people on the internet at one time. Will this older version of the Airport extreme allow that?

Airport Extreme as wifi adapter
I have a Verizon Fios wireless network. I also have a airport extreme I am not currently using. Can I configure the AE to act as a WiFi adapter for my directv box? If so how? I set up the extreme as part of the network but I'm not able to connect an external device such as the directv and get a network connection even though I get a green light from the network connection.

Can a wifi blu ray player access video files on hard drive attached to Extreme/or stored in hard drive of time capsule?
I have a Sony S590 Blu-Ray player. I want to know, once its connected to wireless network created by either extreme or time capsule, would it be able to access media files stored on external hard drives attached to Extreme Base Station/Time Capsule or the inbuilt hard drive of Time Capsule?

I need to have access to a QNAP NAS box on my home network.
The reason is I want to show clients videos and photo's when on the road using a Windows XP laptop, also I give the URL to some clients who then access the QNAP from their own premises.
Can I still do this with the Airport Extreme?
I don't see the point of buying this is I can't configure it to allow access.
Currently I use an iMAC to edit all the footage and pictures which I then load onto the QNAP.- Asked by Anthony C

Can I connect and old time capsule to a new airport extreme?
I use the old time capsule for back up and to stream music wirelessly. However, the music cuts in and out at times and is solid at other times. I suspect it is getting interference from neighboring wifi networks because I live in a town house and there are at least a half dozen networks in range. Can I buy an airport extreme and take advantage of it's dual band to stream the music on the 5 ghz band and connect the old time capsule to it and still use it for back up? I don't think I need a 2 tb drive and the old time capsule still works fine. I still have one or two b/g devices so I can't just switch the old time capsule to N only.
Thanks!- Asked by Daniel S from Portland

I use a VPN client to access my work server remotely; general browsing / server access is slow. Will 5GHz spectrum speed things up?
I use a Cisco VPN client to access my work server remotely; general browsing =, and more importantly, navigating the server is very slow. I currently have a home network setup with two Airport Expresses (most recent version). Will upgrading to the 5GHz spectrum speed things up? Or does the VPN slow things down no matter what?
