is a power pc G4 compatible with airport extreme?
I have tried several times ( unsuccessfully ) to create a wireless network in my home using an airport extreme that I bought 2 years ago. It appears that my old and useless G4 is not compatible with the airport extreme. However, I'd still love to use the airport so I can use my macbook throughout my house and use my Playstation 3 on the wireless network as well. I do want to keep internet access on my G4 if possible: I don't care if I have to run a hard line to it as long as the macbook and playstation 3 are still wireless. Does it make sense to daisy chain from dsl line in, to my router, to the airport to the G4? Or can I split the phone jack so that one goes to the router, the other to the airport? It's been a real headache. Any advice is appreciated, as I don't want to dump my G4 for at least 2 more years. Thanks!

Can mac G5 & G4 wireless laptop be used with Airport ExtremeTime Capsule or do I need to plug in a router to for internet access?
I've purchased the Airport ExtremeTime Capsule along with a new 27"imac and was told I could use my G5 mac tower and G4 laptop with it - however, the connection didn't work for the laptop and kept initiating a shutdown message which froze the G4. I didn't dare try plugging in the G5.

Can I connect my computer via ethernet to the extreme to get internet access without the router being connected via ethernet to the extreme also?
I want to use my extreme to provide an old G4 with internet access. My G4 is upstairs and my router downstairs. Can I connect the extreme via ethernet to the G4 and get access to the internet via wireless? Or does the extreme need an ethernet connection to the router? I do have an extended phone socket nearby, can I connect directly into this and still keep the router downstairs? Thanks

Expanding a network from Sky Router wirelessly to Apple Extreme in seperate rooms?
Here is the problem that I face, I live in an apartment building and have our second bedroom as an office so this houses my printer, back up harddrive, media harddrive. Here lies the problem the I am a SKY broadband customer so by there terms and conditions must use there supplied router but the supplied router will not let me extend the network from the base station or even connect to it to bridge wirelessly.
When i have the extreme base station hard wired to it it has no problems so i can then turn off the broadcasting on the sky router and just have the base station. This is the problem as i only can have my router in one of two rooms and neither are the office. So need to connect it but without wires?
So what i am trying to do is to arrange a way so that i can access the internet, harddrives, printers etc through the base station but this means i have to have a way of getting it connected, things i have thought about are the Ethernet plugs to send the link or getting another router that can be extended to the Extreme base station, either 3rd party router or if the express base station would work.
Any thoughts or tips would help a lot?- Asked by Tom W

will this allow my room-mate to view my hard-drive when both connected?
I'm in one bedroom with a Mac that will be connected to Airport Extreme via Ethernet to a Time Warner internet box. She has a PC and wants to connect to the internet too, but we don't want to share files, just the connection.
I don't want to lose any signal strength or speed however.

Can airport extreme be hardwired to a computer and work wirelessly with another computer?
I have an old iMac G4 without a wireless card and would like to keep it connected to the internet while also operating a mac mini wirelessly through the airport extreme. I'm guessing I can connect my (Motorola SURFboard SB5101) to the airport extreme with an ethernet cable and run another ethernet cable from the AE to the iMac G4 and also connect wirelessly to a mac mini. Thanks for your help and please pardon my ignorance.

does airport extreme work with an existing wireless network router
I have an old G4 bowling ball that needs a wireless access. I also have a Linksys wireless router that is working fine and I want to continue using. So can I use extreme as an access point (no direct modem connection) by just leaving the modem port open and plugging the G4 into one of the other ports?

Creating a network printer using Airport Extreme (where the printer is linked by USB to an iMac in a different room to the Airport Router)
My office where my HP printer & iMac are based. Printer is linked to iMac with USB.
Spare Room is where our internet connection enters the house and where we've got an Airport Extreme beaming the wireless network.
It's simply not practical to have a clunky printer where guests stay.
We've also got 2 laptops and work in other parts of the house.
How can we set up this network up so that we can print from anywhere in the house using a laptop to the printer in the office?

Use Airport Extreme as an access point only
I'm pretty sure this is possible but since Apple is using a different type of setup software for this product than I'm used to it would be helpful to get some pointers on how to do this. I assume I need to turn off DHCP and perhaps give the unit a fixed IP address. My existing network is fully configured with internet access etc and I just need to add the APE. I would connect the base to the existing network using one of the ports and not the WAN port. From this point will the Apple configuration software running on a Windows 7 PC be able to see the unit? Considering the existing network will be running as address like 192.168.2.xxx I'm concerned about the ability to see the unit. Once I can connect then configuration should be fairly simple. It is the intial connection I'm concerned about.
