Can a 4870 and 5870 be used together?
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 with an Ati Radeon HD 4870.
I am using two monitors. I would like to upgrade to the 5870, and was wondering if I could keep the 4870 and run one monitor off each, can both cards be used in a Mac Pro at the same time? I do 3D and using two cards should speed up my viewport? Can the 5870 run two monitors at 2560 x1440 and 1900 x 1200 on its own?- Asked by Christopher R

Can I put 2 of these 5870 graphic cards in my mac pro instead of two 5770 standard graphic cards in the newest mac pro.
Like, I am wondering if I can, in the build-to-order for newest mac pro, just choose the 5870 graphics card and come over here and buy another 5870 graphics card and have the 2 5870's running simultaneously instead of 2 5770 standard graphics cards.

Early 2009 Quad Core compatibility with the new ATI Radeon 5870 and Dual Displays
Its been 2 about 2 years since I bought my Mac Pro... Currently running an early 2009 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with the ATI Radeon HD 4870... Looking to make a couple upgrades to the system
1) Is it as simple as just swapping the two cards? or do I need additional hardware to make the upgrade?
2) Will the 5870 be compatible with my current 24 inch Mac LED Cinema Display (late 2008)?
3) If I were to run 2 monitors (was looking at the new thunderbolt display)... would it be possible to run one at 1920x1200 and the other at 2560x1440 or do they both need to be running at the same resolution off the 5870? OR would I be better off buying an additional Nvidia GT 120 to run the other monitor??
4) If I did run this setup would my current 8gigs of ram be enough? (I do a lot of HDR photography editing and processing involving multiple layers on very large format files)
any help would be greatly appreciated- Asked by Chris E from Summit

Will a normal Radeon HD 5870 work or only this specific one?
I've already got a 58xx card that I use in Boot Camp/Windows - does this mean that there will be drivers so that it'll work under OSX or does it require some special hardware/firmware that only these cards have?

Will this Improve FCP display of mixed HD video on 2009 Mac Pro? Or get Imac?
I have a mid 2009 Mac Pro 8-core with 16 GB with the GeForce GT 120. When I view footage from mixed HD sources in Final Cut Pro--from a Canon 5d, Canon XF, HDV, GH2, etc.--this card plays them back very poorly--a stutter effect. My old Macbook Pro had this problem, my new one plays same project back flawlessly. Would upgrading to this card solve the playback problem and perhaps help with rendering or should I sell the Mac Pro and get a new iMac? I am working on a feature film and the jerky playback is a real headache.

Aperture Performance: ATI Radeon HD 4870 vs ATI Radeon HD 5870
I have an early 2009 Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card.
Do you think there will be a significant performance boost using the 5870 over the 4870 with Aperture ? Apple says the 5870 is great for "motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering, or animation", but not sure if I should expect much improvement using it with Aperture. I am pretty happy with the 4870, so don't want to spend the cash for minimal improvement.
Any thoughts or speculation?- Asked by David S from Anchorage

Installing a second ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card to work together in an ATI-crossfire configuration?
If I were to install a second HD Radeon 5870 card, to go with my existing HD 5870 card (using a Y-splitter to get power to both cards from the single pair of PCIe power-plugs), could I get them to work together in an ATI cross-fire configuration?
I'm looking to get twice the GPU power on a single monitor -- not drive two monitors separately. Like what I had with my nVidia SLI setup on my old PC.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Which card with two DVI ports for two Cinemas 30 inch?
I had to return high end 12 core Mac Pro because the ATI Radeon HD 5870 which came with it has only one DVI port and the two Mini ports with limited resolution, max. 1280x800.
Which card with two DVI ports do I need for Mac Pro to support two Cinemas 30 with resolution 2560x1600?
