graphics card upgrade on an early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1. very confused as to what to buy.
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05
SMC Version (system): 1.25f4
There seem to be very few options, I would really like a definitive answer as to what to do. We play WOW and do video editing with Final Cut. We also are using an old monitor from our previous Mac, so have a special cable to make it work. Currently running a Nvidia 8800Gt so needs to be as good or better. Looks like the 5770 may be the best option, but unsure as to whether it will work, since not running 10.6.- Asked by Kathleen A S from Auburn

Does anyone know if upgrading to this graphics card meets the requirements for Final Cut Pro X running on a 2007 MacPro2.1?
Up till now I have been happy with the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT on my 2007 MacPro2,1Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3 GHz - that was till I went to purchase FCP X on the APp STore and got the graphic card warning.

Is it possible to install three ATI Radeon HD 5770 video cards in the Mac Pro 2010 model?
Understand that there may be physical limitations, due to the heat-sink size. Also, a maximum of 24 dynamically allocated PCI-E lanes (quoted elsewhere). If these do not work, then are there other cards that would?

Does this card support 3D output in any way? Have a Mac Pro 2008 3,1 with HDMI 1.4a for output of blu-ray video/games in bootcamp, 3d games on Mac
I see some mention of ATI supporting 3D in the 5000 seires cards on PC but I see no way to get 3D signal out of this mac card. Can you do it through DVI? Can the DVI connection be adapted to HDMI 1.4a (the minimum needed for a 3D HDMI connection to TV or projector or monitor)? Are there any mini-displayport adapters to HDMI 1.4a? So far, I have either found mention of HDMI 1.3 or no specific HDMI version (that includes Moshi and Belkin adapters that Apple recommends). HDCP may be a background issue as well.
I can play Blu-Ray on bootcamp/win 7 with stock ATI 2600 card and Apple Display 30". I want to add a 3d monitor to my office and try 3D that way.
As a side note, I hear that Mac Mini with the Nvidia graphics can output 1.4a via built-in HDMI under bootcamp/win 7 but I have not verified this myself.- Asked by Reginald L from Ottawa

I have a 3,1 Mac Pro and want to replace the dead video card in it. If I buy this "kit" do I need anything else? Or can this just replace the bad one?
Early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 with a non working stock ATI card.
I need to find a replacement but saw this was listed as a "kit" and did not know if I needed something other than this kit to get it up and going.- Asked by Joshua C from Indianapolis

Why does this require a Mac Pro (Mid 2010)? Q+A suggests older mac pro's may work? I would like to buy this, but am afraid to.
Why does the description on the apple page tell us that a mid 2010 mac pro is required?
Reading Q+A, this seems to be inaccurate.
I am afraid to buy this. But I would like a video card with a mini-dvi port, and not sure what my options are for a 2007 mac pro is currently uses a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 T.- Asked by Neil J
