does this have the same problem lack of exclusive mode issue in Snow Leopard with non iTunes applications (Logic-VLC-Sofacontrol-etc) as the old one?

Currently Snow leopard isn't allowing for use of the remote in anything other than itunes or quicktime x. Using it outside those applications launches itunes.

What's the signal strength compare to the old white one?

I have the older white remote, using it in my car with an Universal Dock.
I put my dock in the glovebox and with current white remote, if I aim at the crack, it will work. Does the aluminum one offers better signal strength? If it's better, i will get one.

Will this remote allow me to control my iTunes downloaded music on my new iMac 27" (June 2011)?

I have the original remote. I have always been disapointed that it does not control the volume for external speakers. Is there a fix for this?

Mac book running snow Leopard with the original remote. Airport express connected for speakers. Remote controls speakers in Mac Book but not external.
