Reasons to get this display instead of another (cheaper) brand to pair with Macbook Pro (to answer IT purchasers in my org).
I would like to get the 27" cinema display to pair with a new macbook pro that will double as my desktop and mobile computer. I am being asked why my org should spend so much more for a display when there are other monitors available. I have a couple of reasons (easy connection, recharge as soon as it's connected instead of using sep cord, Thunderbolt), but it comes down to preferring Apple/Apple products and using things that were designed to go together, which my IT manager completely rejects.

9400M and 9600M GT, enough power?
Will my MacBook Pro from Mid-2009 be able to run this display without lag? (Using Lion) Will it have a decent fps in final cut or is it just too high a resolution?
Thanks. :)
MacBook Pro Specs:
2.66 GHz
9400M + 9600M GT (Both 256 MB)
8GB RAM
I think that was the important specs. ^^- Asked by Søren F

Why is this so expensive if it's just a display?
I'm just wondering, does this have any other uses? i.e can I use it as a TV?
This is NOT a stupid question - think about it - it is a THOUSAND dollars, and it's just a display, a big shiny tv. Without ANY other purpose. You can get 50" plasma/LED Smart tvs for that amount of money!
Can this be used for anything else? I'm NOT buying it if it's just a screen.- Asked by Joanne M

When connected to the Cinema Display via my MacBook Pro. Can I close the lid of my MacBook Pro?
I am thinking of buying the new Cinema Display in 2 weeks when it's pay day. But if I connect to the Cinema Display via my MacBook pro. Can I close the lid of my MacBook Pro and still use it via the Cinema Display. Otherwise I would have 2 monitors open. And that's a lot of light!?

I know there have been other questions about the 27" Apple LED Cinema display working with PCs, but does it work with the Radeon HD 5770?
Others have mentioned more powerful cards such as the Radeon HD 5970, but this monitor's max resolution is at that of the Radeon HD 5770. I am going to buy a Macbook Pro with the i7 and *possibly* this monitor, if it works with my PC. I have a Intel based board with a Radeon HD 5770. I know older mac pros had these, so it works with the card in general, but does it work in a PC under Linux? I was looking at a display port male (the one on my 5770) to mini displayport female (I know the display has a mini male DP connector).

vertical display for the Aplle LED Cinema Display 27"
Hello everyone ,
Can anyone tell me if I can use this display with a vertical setting ? I need to work on my photos with my 2007 and 2008 iMac 24",or with my macbook Pro, but I would like to see the photos/result of the pictures on the extra cinema display 27 " just near my iMac, with the 27" cinema display standing vertical and showing a vertical image.
Does it have the same feature as the newst iPhones and iMacs, allowing a vertical display of the panel screen and of the photos ?
Is this possible ? Can it be done ? Any restriction ?- Asked by I D
