adapter to connect a CRT monitor to 24" iMac

I want to create a primary - secondary monitor setup. I want to connect a CRT monitor to my 24" iMac (2009 model) so that iMac is the primary monitor and CRT monitor is the secondary. Which is the adapter to use for this purpose?

what cable do I use from an imac to a HDMI port on my HDTV that is 6 feet away?

I am a newbie to the mac world and have just ordered an imac 21.5 in . I have a Sharp HDTV with open HDMI input port that I want to use to display streamed Netflix movies. I have a DVI cable that I use on my old computer to dual display the monitor on the HDTV, but would rather use HDMI if I can.

I currently use a KVMP switch right now for my multiple PCs with a 20" vga monitor. i want to use the iMac 27" as my main desktop monitor now. I can work out the keyboard and mouse issues by using two sets, but the video is a BIG issue. Apple implies a device like this should work. What cable do i need to connect an Imac core 2 duo to a hdmi projector

Is vga the same as hdmi?! I have no idea so I don't understand wether I'm meant to get a DVI - VGA adapter or one (that doesn't seem to be available) to hdmi?! Also because my Imac is a core 2 duo not a core duo I've been led to believe I can't get one to work with mine at all...?!

Really need some help with this as I'm sick of ordering the wrong cables and having to wait 15 days for a refund... :/
