Would it run as smooth in a MacBook air the way it would on a MacBook pro or iMac? Or am I better off using it only for MacBook pro and iMac?

    There is no difference. Currently running it on 3 MacBook Airs. (2) 2012 models and (1) Mid-2011 model.
