I have this working in my 3,1 using snow leopard.
I believe the reason they do not mention 2008 mac pro for a supported system is due to the fact that it natively came with leopard and not snow leopard. Since this card requirement is for snow leopard and some folks might still be using an older OS for the 2008 they do not mention support for this device. If you upgraded to snow leopard 10.6.4 you should be good to go.

  • Yes. I installed it on my MacPro 3,1 yesterday. DO take the drives out first, DO notice the little plastic clip on the motherboard that holds the current graphics card in place - doesn't mention that in the instructions and I didn't know it was there. It's now snapped off, but that doesn't seem to have affected anything I guess it just means the card could work loose if moved around.

Good purchase for a machine the age of ours - gives it a new lease of life

  • I have been using this card in my Mac Pro 3,1 for quite awhile with perfect performance. It is driving two 27 inch Cinema displays. I have not tried a third display through the DVI connector, but hope to check that out soon.

  • Yes. I am successfully running a NEC PA271W and a HP 2475w (hooked up to the MiniDisplayPort ports) along with a Dell 2007WFP attached to the DVI port. My Mac Pro (8-core, 2008) is running 10.6.5.
