Will iWork read my Microsoft Office Documents?

I just bought a Macbook Pro and I am debating whether to buy the iWork software or the Microsoft Office for Mac. I'm highly considering the iWork only because it's cheaper. My question is I have a lot of MS Office documents on my flashdrive, will they open in iWork?

Yes, they will; however, as soon as you make changes to them, they will save as separate Pages/Numbers/Keynote files. You need to Export them as individual MS Word, MS Excel, PDF, RTF or Plain Text documents. iWork's Keynote is the Powerpoint(from inside MS Office) equivalent and Numbers is the MS Excel(from in side MS Office). iWork is much more versatile.
