More professionals find the need for FW800 over FW400.

By choosing a FW800 port, it allows users to connect both FW800 and FW400 devices to the machines (the latter with the use of an adapter) without a loss in speed.

  • Firewire 800 transfers data at 800 Mbit/s, which is twice as fast as Firewire 400 (at 400 Mbit/s). In fact, even USB 2.0 (at 480 Mbit/s) is faster than Firewire 400, so that connector is pretty obsolete. This is why Apple is removing it from all future products.
