QA AirPort Extreme Base Station
Product No Longer Available
where is the best location for this in our home for the best performance/
we have just purchased this for our home. We have 2 iMacs and an xbox 360 in our basement and a ps3 upstairs. We also have a powerbook G4 and a dell laptop. I was just wondering if there is a better area of our home to put this or is down buy the imacs ok.
we have been having many issues with our wireless and we have decided due to the fact that we use many mac based products, that this router may be the answer for us. Any opinion would be appreciated .

The best location to put the AirPort Extreme is a location where its more likely to be used the most, but usually placing it in the center of the home will be the best location so that all the electronic items that are going to use the wifi will get it.

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the construction of your house, from my use of wireless N (5ghz) products including the Airport Extreme I have found that on 5ghz it works very well over a large house but on G / N at 2.4ghz there can be a drop off of signal. What I would recommend is putting the Extreme into dual mode (so it used 5 and 2.4) and placing it closer to the products that will not use 5ghz (your XBox / PS3 dell laptop and G4 powerbook) the iMac should be fine running on 5ghz.
Also I can recommend extending your network using Airport Express adapters they are with out a doubt the easiest method I have ever found to extend a wireless network, they are one tick box on the Extreme Base station and very simple set up on the units. This will give you a much increased coverage area.
I hope this helps.
