The Aviators, although described as "closed back" headphones, don't offer much at all in terms of noise isolation. In fact, although they form a comfortable seal around the ears, you can unfortunately hear every little sound around you -- air vents, rumble, etc.

You've asked to compare these with Bose, but haven't mentioned which model. If you're referring to any of the active noise canceling models (e.g., Quiet Comfort series), then Bose wins hands down -- because the Aviators are not noise canceling headphones. Compared with the Bose AE2 or OE2 models (passive noise isolating), Bose wins again as they effectively block a good amount of ambient noise.

I love the sound and comfort of the Aviators but have to say emphatically that they're TERRIBLE at blocking any external sound whatsoever.

  • These headphones aren't advertised to cancel noise but they do a pretty good job. I would say that they're definitely not as good as the Bose, but if you have them on and you're playing your music, hearing someone else or something else is something that probably won't happen.
