You can use this adapter with an HDMI cable for video, but with the previous MacBook Pro, you'll also need something like "XtremeMac XtremeHD Toslink Audio Cable" for the audio.

There isn't a comparable solution as the previous MBP's did not support audio and video through the MiniDisplay port. You would have to go MiniDisplay to DVI and then DVI to HDMI, as well as a separate stereo cable for the audio.
