What exactly do I need to set up a home network with my MacBook? Just an outlet, or is it more?

I'm new to setting up a network...

I assume you are trying to setup a wireless network. You first need a ISP (internet service provider) to provider internet to your house. Then if setting up a wireless network you need a wireless router such as the AEBS. This will allow you to connect your ISP to the router then send your signal through your home wirelessly. Next you need a computer that can accress the internet over Wifi. You Macbook can do this. After you setup your router then simply turn on airport on your macbook, find your network and connect. That should be it for a very simple home network.
