My printer does not have a wireless feature, but if I connect it to the Airport Extreme Base Station, would the printer still work?
Would the connection to the printer be wireless, and do I still have to install the printer's software CD?

Depends upon "your" printer, which you have not specified. It will probably work as long as it is not a "host-based" printer. It will give you the least amount of trouble if you connect it to the Extreme with Ethernet cable (if it has an Ethernet port).
You will then be able to print from any wireless computer that has the printer driver installed. If it now works when wired to your computer, then it will also work wirelessly (via the Extreme) with that same computer.
Software installs usually are for adding special sprinting features, but always necessary for multi-function units. Drivers and software are available for download from every manufacturer's website, even for old models.
