Power consumption with the 5x00 cards is dramatically lower than the 4x00 series. Under full load, most 5870 cards take between 97 and 115 watts of power, and that's taxing the GPU at 100%. These cards are about three times more energy efficient than the previous generation of Radeon cards, and as a result, they do not generally get as hot as often as the older series do.
They will, however, just like the 4x00 series cards, take up two slots of space, which in a Mac Pro is a non-issue since GPU slot #1 is a double wide slot.

ATI and Apple both claim that the 5870 and 5770 will use less power, especially in idle. Idle matters the most obviously, so it is good to hear they have managed to accomplish the most savings in that characteristic.
