I don't have any firsthand experience yet, but I have a feeling that 2x the amount of VRAM will be a big deal when working with longer motion projects, or motion projects with more layers - Especially in a dual-display setup.

Barefeats did a test with a stock motion template, and the 5870 was the same speed as the 4870. I think if the project was a little more complicated, we'd see a difference.

  • You will see performance improvements in all areas when using this card (the HD 5870) over the older Radeon 4870 card. The technology is improved, this is a faster card and has more video RAM and it is capable of handling more operations in every area that you could use the card (3D gaming, Photoshop, Final Cur Pro, Motion, Aperture) -- you will see performance over the 4870 in every area with this card.
