Is it possible to get a microphone without earphones attached?

I am a University professor and want to use my ipod (6th gen nano) to record my lectures for my students. I can't wear earphones while I'm teaching. Does Apple or an associate sell a microphone without earphones? Or is there a way to use this mic without wearing the earphones?

    yes, you can use the mic on the headphone without needing to use the ear peice
