I'm a student and want to record lectures in an auditorium with a 300 person capacity with my ipod touch (32 GB). Is the mic good enough for this?

Not really : ( This mic and most other mics built into the bud remote are meant for close-up use. (2 feet from face). I would explore for a special mic for that particular use.

  • If you have a 1st gen ipod touch, no. If you have a 2nd, 3rd or 4th gen ipod touch, yes. the microphone is pretty good but be sure you have a good stereo, otherwise you'll blame me and the mic.

  • Headset mics aren't designed for this sort of thing. Quite the opposite, they're specifically designed to filter out background noise (ie: futher away), and only pick up closer sounds (ie: your voice).

Having said that, the microphone in this model is identical to the standard iPhone 3GS/4 headset. So, if you know someone with an iPhone, borrow their headset, and try it out!

Also, you can get adapters that will allow you to plug in any standard 3.5mm microphone, which will give you a much wider range to choose from.

    Good luck!
