If I buy this to replace the dead battery in my 13 inch macbook (purchased in 2006 or 2007), can I do it myself?

Yes, quite easily. Use a quarter to turn the slot next to the battery, and it will pop it out. Insert the new battery, and then turn the slot to lock it in.

Yes. But special tools may be required, Such as
A flat tiped screwdriver,
A Butter knife,
An SD Card,
Round side of a key,
Choose one of these items to turn the lock on the MacBook.
